About the role
ReactReact NativeTypeScriptNode.jsKubernetesCI/CDObservabilityB2B SalesGerman
Orcrist is building a next generation data intelligence platform using cutting-edge technologies. We're handling petabyte-scale data with sub-second queries. Our product is a Kubernetes‑based platform delivered as B2B SaaS or as a self‑hosted on‑prem solution, including air‑gapped deployments. We enable customers across defense, law enforcement, and enterprise to turn mission-critical data into actionable intelligence.
Role
Build and evolve AirSpot, a mobile app that lets the public report drone sightings while giving law enforcement and defense teams the information they need to understand what's happening in the airspace around them.
You'll work across the full mobile surface: real-time geospatial data, reporting workflows, maps, alerts, feeds, and offline-capable experiences. The app is already under development with React Native and Expo; you'll join an early team, co-own the architecture, and help take it from an early product to a production-grade application used by real people.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role. You'll make architectural decisions, build features end to end, improve performance and reliability, and help establish the engineering practices that the mobile team will grow around.
What you'll do
- Build and ship production mobile features with React Native, Expo, TypeScript, and Expo Router.
- Own architectural decisions across state management, data fetching, offline behavior, navigation, and the mobile build/release pipeline.
- Build geospatial experiences with MapLibre, including real-time location and map interactions.
- Improve performance and reliability across startup time, animations, lists, memory, battery, and crashes.
- Establish reliable testing with Jest, React Native Testing Library, and Maestro.
- Own production delivery with EAS, including builds, signing, releases, and app store readiness.
- Contribute to backend APIs when useful and help establish engineering standards as the team grows.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery without compromising quality.
About you
- Several years of professional software engineering experience, including at least two production React Native apps with real users.
- Strong React Native, TypeScript, and Expo experience, including the New Architecture (Fabric, TurboModules, Bridgeless).
- Experience with mobile performance, testing, observability, and production releases.
- Hands-on experience with MapLibre, Mapbox, Google Maps, or comparable mobile mapping technologies.
- Evidence of owning architecture or major technical decisions, not just implementing predefined features.
- Strong engineering judgment, pragmatic problem-solving, and the ability to work independently in a small team.
- University-level technical education in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
- Eligible to work in Germany and, where required, for EU/NATO security clearance.
Nice-to-haves
- Node.js, Bun, or other backend experience.
- Reanimated, Gesture Handler, and advanced React Native animations.
- Geospatial, aviation, ADS-B, drone, or real-time location experience.
- Experience with EAS/Fastlane and mobile CI/CD.
- Defense, law enforcement, or other regulated-environment experience.
- German language skills.
- Open-source contributions to React Native or Expo.
- Practical experience with AI coding agents and modern AI-assisted development.
