About the role

CRMB2B SalesBusiness DevelopmentNegotiation
About OBX OBX is an Obytes initiative helping engineering teams adopt AI-enabled software-delivery workflows. We combine platform capabilities with technical expertise to help customers assess opportunities, implement solutions, and operate them successfully. We are in an early stage of commercial development. Our priority is to identify where OBX creates meaningful value, validate customers’ willingness to pay, and establish a repeatable commercial approach. We’re looking for a Business Director who can help us build that foundation. The role You will work closely with our CEO, product lead, and engineering and solutions teams to identify the right customers, understand their problems, and turn qualified opportunities into paid engagements. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role. You will own account research, outreach, discovery, qualification, opportunity progression, and commercial follow-up. You will also help us answer important questions: Who needs OBX most? What creates urgency? Who makes the buying decision? Why do customers buy—or decide not to? Success means generating credible market insight and commercially sound business, not simply booking meetings or reporting a large pipeline. What you will do - Identify and prioritize target accounts, initially focusing on product-led technology companies and digitally dependent mid-market businesses. - Build relationships with CTOs, engineering leaders, and other relevant decision-makers. - Conduct discovery conversations to understand customer workflows, problems, business impact, urgency, and purchasing processes. - Generate opportunities through targeted outbound activity, referrals, and relevant professional networks. - Qualify opportunities against customer need, technical fit, budget, buying authority, and timing. - Coordinate demonstrations and technical discovery with our product and solutions teams. - Develop proposals with internal stakeholders and progress opportunities through commercial discussions and contracting. - Help customers move from paid assessment into implementation and ongoing support. - Maintain an accurate CRM, with clear evidence, next steps, owners, and decision dates. - Capture buying objections, competitive alternatives, and reasons for wins, losses, and delays. - Translate customer conversations into structured feedback for product and leadership. - Ensure customer commitments are aligned with approved scope, pricing, and delivery capacity. What your first 90 days will look like Days 1–30: Understand OBX and establish the foundation - Learn the product, customer problems, demonstrations, and commercial approach. - Develop a prioritized target-account list and qualification framework. - Establish a clear outreach, discovery, and opportunity-tracking process. - Conduct initial customer interviews and share evidence-based findings. Days 31–60: Validate demand and build qualified opportunities - Reach approximately 15 meaningful discovery conversations across the initial target segments. - Identify at least five qualified opportunities with a clear problem, buying process, and agreed next step. - Work with the team to prepare approximately three paid-assessment proposals. - Recommend improvements to positioning and qualification based on customer evidence. Days 61–90: Convert opportunities and sharpen market focus - Work towards securing two paid assessments and progressing the first implementation engagement. - Establish reliable commercial-to-delivery handoffs. - Present a clear recommendation on the most promising segment, buyer, use case, and commercial approach. These are initial planning targets. We will confirm them during onboarding against product readiness, available support, and observed sales cycles. What we’re looking for - Demonstrated experience in B2B business development or consultative sales for software, SaaS, developer tools, technical services, or related solutions. - Experience progressing opportunities beyond introductions and demonstrations into paid engagements. - Strong discovery skills: you ask precise questions, listen carefully, and distinguish genuine demand from polite interest. - Confidence speaking with technical and business stakeholders, including CTOs and engineering leaders. - The ability to explain a technical proposition clearly without exaggerating its capabilities. - Strong written communication, proposal preparation, negotiation, and follow-through. - Disciplined CRM use and evidence-based forecasting. - Comfort working in an early-stage environment where positioning and processes are still being tested. - Professional English proficiency. You do not need to be an engineer, but you must be willing and able to understand the workflows you are selling into. Experience that would be valuable - Selling to engineering teams or technology-led organizations. - Working with AI products, automation, developer platforms, or software-delivery tools. - Helping an early-stage product identify its initial customers and commercial model. - Working closely with founders, product managers, and technical delivery teams. - Experience with enterprise procurement, security reviews, or technical buying processes. How we will evaluate success We will look at: - Quality of market insight and customer qualification. - Progression into paid assessments and implementation engagements. - Commercial accuracy and pipeline discipline. - Quality of collaboration with product and engineering. - Reliable handoffs and realistic customer commitments. - Your ability to identify unsuitable opportunities and explain when OBX should decline a deal. We value someone who can challenge our assumptions with evidence—not someone who tells us every prospect is a perfect fit. <!-- notionvc: e93e8f94-88df-4e5e-a3b2-69394513c99b -->
