Senior Backend Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY: As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will work closely with our clients to design, build, and maintain backend services that meet their technical and business needs. You will be involved throughout the development lifecycle, from understanding client requirements and designing technical solutions to implementation, deployment, and ongoing support. This role requires strong backend engineering skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to adapt to different projects, codebases, and development environments. You’ll work closely with client teams as well as our internal engineers to deliver secure, scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient backend solutions. Our ideal candidate is a versatile engineer who can quickly understand new systems and requirements, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and take ownership of delivering high-quality solutions in a client-facing environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Backend Engineer is accountable for the following functions and responsibilities: - Work directly with clients to understand requirements and translate them into effective backend solutions. - Design, develop, and improve scalable, secure, reliable, and cost-efficient backend services. - Collaborate closely with client engineering teams and internal cross-functional teams to deliver projects effectively. - Quickly understand and work with existing codebases, architectures, and technologies. - Take ownership of significant backend components and technical workstreams. - Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations clearly to clients and stakeholders. - Troubleshoot complex backend and production issues and drive them through to resolution. - Promote engineering best practices and provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers. - Contribute to technical designs, documentation, and other engineering initiatives. - Lead a team or technical workstream when called upon. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: - 5+ years of professional experience working with backend systems using Go, Java, or a similar server-side language. - Extensive experience designing and developing backend services and APIs in production environments. - Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB. - Experience building microservices and cloud applications using AWS or another public cloud provider. - Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, performance, and backend architecture. - Experience building highly scalable services serving large numbers of users. - Strong understanding of security and backend engineering best practices. - Strong written and verbal English communication skills. - Experience working with clients or external stakeholders in a technical capacity. - Ability to adapt quickly to new codebases, technologies, requirements, and development environments - Comfortable working in an agile environment with distributed teams and tight deadlines. - Proficiency in using AI coding assistants is required. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: - Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field of study. - AAA game studio experience. - Working knowledge of Linux.
