About the Role As the Workshop Technician, you will be part of our Technical and Customer Services team, based in our Braeside workshop and warehouse, helping keep our electric utility vehicles moving for customers, dealers and fleet operators. This is a hands-on role for someone with solid workshop experience who enjoys figuring out how things work, solving problems and getting stuck in. We’re looking for someone who can confidently work autonomously, diagnose issues and make sound decisions without needing a lot of direction, while also knowing when to pull others in. As our Workshop Technician, you’ll assemble, PDI, service, diagnose, repair and maintain electric bikes, batteries and fleet vehicles. You’ll work across mechanical, DC electrical and electronic systems, prepare vehicles for customers, investigate faults and warranty issues, and occasionally head out on-site to support our customers and fleets. You don’t need to come in knowing everything about UBCO or electric vehicles. You do need a solid technical foundation, good problem-solving skills and the confidence to take ownership of your work through to completion. It’s a physical, hands-on role, so you’ll spend most of your day on your feet working with bikes, tools, components and equipment. Because we’re a small team, you won’t be boxed into one narrow area. You’ll work alongside Customer Services, Operations, Warehouse and Engineering and pitch in where needed. NOTE: We’re keen to get someone great into this role and are running a two-week advertising period, so if this sounds like you, we’d encourage you to get your application in early. What You’ll Be Doing - Assemble UBCO bikes and complete PDI, testing and quality checks to get them ready for customers, dispatch and fleet deployment. - Service, maintain and repair customer, dealer and fleet bikes, both in the workshop and on-site when required. - Diagnose mechanical, DC electrical and electronic faults, and repair or replace components and accessories as needed. - Test ride vehicles and inspect returned products to support fault finding, warranty investigations and quality checks. - Provide practical technical support to customers, dealers and internal teams, helping solve problems quickly and clearly. - Keep accurate service, parts and customer records while maintaining a safe, organised and well-run workshop. - Work closely with the wider team to share knowledge, improve how we work and pitch in where needed, including supporting Warehouse, Engineering and customer events. What You’ll Bring We’re looking for someone with a solid technical foundation who can hit the ground running and work confidently and independently in a hands-on workshop environment. You’ll need to be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold Australian permanent residency, to be considered for this role. Ideally, you’ll bring: - 2–3 years’ experience in a commercial workshop or similar hands-on technical environment, servicing, repairing or maintaining mechanical and/or electrical equipment. - A solid working understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, ideally backed by a Trade Qualification, TAFE certificate or equivalent practical experience. - Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to work autonomously, manage your own workload and see jobs through without close supervision, while knowing when to escalate an issue. - Experience dealing directly with customers and the ability to communicate technical information clearly. - A strong safety mindset, attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work. - A team-first, can-do attitude and the flexibility to pitch in and adapt when priorities change. - Confidence using computers and digital systems to keep records accurate and up to date. - A genuine interest in electric vehicles, bikes and technology. - A full, valid driver licence and a motorcycle licence, or willingness to obtain one. It would be great if you also have: - Experience carrying out mobile servicing or repairs at customer sites. - Experience using CRM or service management systems. - Experience supporting sales, marketing, customer or industry events. - Parts handling, stock management or warehouse experience. - First Aid certification. - A forklift licence. About Us We’re UBCO Australia, a small, passionate team based in Braeside, Melbourne, building electric utility vehicles that are made to work. We create tough, reliable vehicles for fleets and currently supply Australia Post with their fleet of Postie Bikes. Our vehicles support industries including conservation, law enforcement, tourism, agriculture, postal services, defence and delivery. They’re utility-first: safe, quiet, easy to use and ready to handle whatever the environment throws at them. Our team is a powerhouse of talent and passion. We combine deep technical expertise with entrepreneurial spirit and practical problem-solving. We work closely with our customers to understand how they operate and what they’re trying to achieve, then deliver the right tools to help them get there. Continuous improvement is in our DNA. We use customer feedback, learn fast and constantly push the boundaries of what’s possible with electric utility vehicles. Every improvement is about making our vehicles more capable, reliable and useful in the real world. Why Join Us - You’ll help shape something real. Our products are essential tools for people doing tough, meaningful work, from postal workers and delivery riders to park rangers and field teams. - You’ll grow by doing. We’re a high-trust, hands-on environment where people are trusted to take ownership, solve problems and keep learning. - No two days will look exactly the same. You might be building bikes one day, diagnosing an electrical fault the next, or heading out to support a fleet customer on-site. - You’ll move fast and stay curious. We solve real problems in real time. If you thrive on pace, change and practical challenges, you’ll fit right in. - You’ll have flexibility where it works. This is a hands-on, workshop-based role, but we understand life happens outside of work too. We’re open to flexibility around start and finish times and making work fit around the things that matter. - You’ll work with good humans. We’re collaborative, inclusive and low on ego. We back each other, pitch in and celebrate the wins, big and small. If you are passionate about the role but don’t tick every box, we still want to hear from you. At UBCO Australia, we believe diverse teams create stronger, more creative, and resilient products. We celebrate different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences and are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and valued. We encourage applications from people of all genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, abilities, ages, and cultures. Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer immigration sponsorship for this role, so we do require applicants to have permanent rights to work in Australia. Please let us know if you need any help or accommodations during the hiring process. We want to make sure everyone has a fair chance.
