About the role
🦅 ABOUT EAGLE
Eagle is on a mission to re-energize the engineering profession.
Every road, water system, and power grid starts at an engineering firm. There are 45,700 of them in the US, and most run on software older than the engineers using it.
We partner deeply with engineering firms and build an AI-native operating system to give engineers superpowers (i.e., get things done faster and better).
Founded by Mayank Mardia (CEO), Sohum Daftary (President), and Thomas Shouler, P.E. (CTO). Backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners.
🎯 THE ROLE
You'll partner with the Founders across buying great firms, helping them grow, and supporting Eagle’s operations.
We want you to own workstreams, have a perspective, and mobilize people to get things done.
🙋 WHAT WE LOOK FOR
Very Important
- You can earn trust with owners, founders, and executives
- You can use AI tools every day to work faster, and can show us how
- You're willing to get on a plane and implement the ideas you come up with
- You’re excellent at communications, nuance, and persuasion
- You’re curious and resourceful, figuring out things we didn’t know before
How you work
- You show up and unblock the work, which often means meeting people, understanding them, and getting folks aligned
- You aren't afraid to ask hard questions and listen
- You bring people along with clarity, empathy, and intention
- You find the faster, better, and cost-effective path, whether it requires leveraging AI, bringing in people, or coordinating among vendors
- You are a very fast learner and new domains excite you.
Bonus points
- You've started something of your own
- You’ve had to negotiate with or convince people in high-stakes settings
- You've built a tool, dashboard, or automation with AI or low-code
💛 Don't check every box? Apply anyway. We hire for hunger, curiosity, and people-empathy.
🛠️ WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Be on-site, and earn the trust of principals and engineers who've never worked with a tech company
- Run the integration cadence with firm leadership: 90-day plan, comp plan rollout, key hires
- Meet founder-owners of engineering firms and own the relationship from first call to close
- Maintain a high touch relationship with sellers and solve for their objectives
- Help with Eagle’s operations, including recruiting, logistics, and admin
And likely a lot more, ideally from opportunities you surface within Eagle or our partner firms

❓ Q&A
- What does a Chief of Staff do at Eagle?
You are an extension, and in some places, a replacement for the Founders. You’ll own workstreams, important conversations, and meaningful decisions.
A portion of what you do will be onsite at our partner engineering firms driving growth, and a portion will be building Eagle.
- Is this an M&A role or an operations role?
It’s both, candidly. Expect about a third of your time on deals, a third running Eagle, and a third with the firms we buy. The mix shifts as deals close.
- Why leave private equity or consulting for this?
You get to do the deal and then own what happens after it closes. You'll help build a company from zero, backed by Lightspeed, in an industry that's barely been touched by AI. Your scope grows every time we buy a firm.
- Do I need to code?
No, but you should use AI tools daily and be comfortable learning new ones. If you've built something with AI, show us. Our team builds software every day and will help you go further.
- How much travel should I expect?
About 6 to 8 days a month, mostly Southern California and New York. Some months are heavier, especially around a deal closing.
- Can I work remotely?
Yes. Live anywhere in the US. Our NYC office is open to you anytime, and in-person time with the team happens on the road and at HQ.
- What's the career path?
It grows with the portfolio. As we acquire more firms, paths include leading deals, operating roles at the firms we buy, and senior roles at Eagle. We'll talk openly about where you want to go.
- How is compensation set?
Base falls within the posted range based on experience. Equity is founding equity, sized to the scope of the role. We'll walk you through both in detail before any offer.
- What's the team like?
We’re nice! We promise. Small, fast, and in-person in New York. We come from Arup, Palantir, Pivotal, Replica, Bloomberg, and Long Ridge, among others. We ask a lot of questions and get on a lot of planes.
- How do I apply?
Apply at jobs.ashbyhq.com/eagle http://jobs.ashbyhq.com/eagle.
