ABOUT THE ROLE Join a small engineering team building AI systems for hospitality operations. You will own full-stack components that resolve guest requests, from understanding intent and retrieving relevant information to coordinating tools and generating responses. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Build response-generation pipelines that classify intent, assemble context, select tools, and determine whether to respond or escalate. - Develop retrieval systems that ground responses in accurate, current customer data, including handling messy inputs. - Build reliable multi-step tool workflows and manage third-party API failures during conversations. - Create evaluation frameworks using real conversations to measure quality and catch regressions. - Implement observability and tracing that make complex agent behavior understandable to support teams. - Build interfaces and controls that let non-technical teams configure agent behavior. - Extend agent capabilities to voice, including real-time transcription and tool use. - Improve speed and cost through model routing, caching, and prompt refinement, while owning related infrastructure, data pipelines, integrations, and APIs. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - At least 3 years of experience shipping production software used by real people; 5 or more years is relevant experience. - Experience designing, debugging, and evaluating production AI or ML systems, including retrieval, prompt engineering, or model orchestration. - Hands-on individual-contributor experience across multiple areas of the stack, such as backend, frontend, infrastructure, or data pipelines. - Proficiency in a backend language such as Python, Go, Rust, or Java, and experience integrating third-party APIs. - Experience with retrieval quality, multi-step workflows or function calling, production evaluation, and observability or tracing. - Strong software engineering fundamentals supported by relevant formal education. - Experience with real-time systems, voice, user-facing configuration tools, or model cost and latency optimization is valuable. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Base salary: $130,000 to $220,000 annually, plus 0.20% to 1.20% equity. Benefits include health insurance and a 401(k) match. Visa sponsorship is not available; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. LOCATION On-site in San Francisco, California.
