About us:
Calder is solving the data bottleneck for embodied AI and world models. Today's AI models lack the real-world, 4D data needed to reason on spatial problems and operate in physical environments. We capture, process, and deliver high-fidelity human-generated spatial data at scale, providing the substrate that trains the next generation of generalizable models for manipulation, navigation, and interaction.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a Full-Stack Engineer to build the apps, tools, and websites that run Calder's operations. A lot of the business depends on software someone has to build quickly: dashboards that show managers where collection, QA, and deliveries stand; internal tools that replace spreadsheets and one-off scripts for operations and review teams; and portals that let vendors and customers onboard, upload, track status, and get what they need without a support thread. You'll take requests directly from leads managers, operators, vendors, and customers, turn them into a clear scope, and ship them end to end — frontend, backend, data, and deployment. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role: you will talk to the people who have the problem, ship a first version fast, and keep improving it based on how it is actually used.
- Build and own dashboards for managers and leadership — collection progress, QA and review throughput, vendor performance, delivery status — backed by queries you can trust over our databases and data lake
- Build internal tools for operations and review teams: task queues, review UIs, admin consoles, bulk-edit and correction tools, and lookups that replace spreadsheets and ad-hoc scripts
- Build vendor-facing apps: onboarding, large-file upload and intake, metadata capture, equipment and location management, status tracking, and feedback loops so vendors can fix issues themselves
- Build customer-facing apps and sites: delivery portals, dataset browsing and previews, delivery dashboards, and reports shaped to each customer's requirements
- Gather requirements directly from managers, ops leads, vendors, and customers; turn vague asks into a scoped first version, and iterate quickly once it ships
- Design the backend behind those tools: APIs, Postgres schemas and migrations, and integrations with our data pipelines, storage, and third-party services
- Own access for external users — organizations, SSO, roles and scopes — so each vendor and customer sees exactly their own data and nothing else
- Ship with tests (unit, integration, end-to-end), CI/CD, and monitoring, and support what you run in production
- Keep a consistent component and design system across internal and external apps so new tools are fast to build and easy to use
- Write short docs and runbooks so ops and support can use and troubleshoot the tools without tribal knowledge
ABOUT YOU
- 4+ years building and shipping production web applications end to end — frontend, backend, database, and deployment
- Strong TypeScript and React with modern tooling (Vite, Tailwind, TanStack Query, or similar)
- Strong backend skills in Python (FastAPI or similar) and real fluency in SQL and PostgreSQL data modeling
- Experience building data-heavy dashboards and admin tools — large tables, filters, search, charts, exports — that stay fast as the data grows
- Experience with authentication and authorization for external users: SSO/OAuth, multi-tenant organizations, role- or scope-based access
- Comfortable on AWS (S3, containers, managed Postgres) and with infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform
- Product instinct: you can find the real need behind a request, and you would rather ship something useful this week than something perfect next quarter
- Fluent with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) and use them to move fast without lowering the quality bar
- Clear written communication; comfortable working directly with external vendors and customers
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
NICE TO HAVE
- Data releases and customer deliveries — packaging, validating, and shipping datasets on a schedule
- Domain knowledge of data converters — vendor capture formats into a standard format, and standard data into customer delivery formats, including structured and binary formats (video, protobuf, MCAP, or similar)
- Handle vendor- and customer-specific issues — failed uploads, unsupported devices or formats, deliveries that don't match the spec — and how to investigate them end to end
- Large-file upload flows: resumable uploads (tus), S3 multipart, presigned URLs
- Video, image, or 3D previews in the browser (HLS, three.js, point clouds)
- Data orchestration and analytics tools: Dagster or Airflow, Athena, DuckDB
- Maps and geospatial UIs
- gRPC / Protocol Buffers and typed API contracts
- WorkOS, Auth0, or similar identity platforms
- Datadog or similar observability; Playwright for end-to-end tests
- Background in ML data, robotics, or data-operations companies
- Datadog or similar observability; Playwright for end-to-end tests
- Background in ML data, robotics, or data-operations companies
- Building apps used by a multilingual, global vendor base
