Your Impact:
A successful Central Office installation takes more than good hands. It takes someone who can verify the site, understand the design, prepare the crew, and keep the work moving safely around live equipment. We are looking for that person to serve as a hands-on Level 4 Working Lead on carrier Central Office projects nationwide.
You will lead installation, modification, integration, testing, and removal of telecommunications equipment and -48V DC infrastructure. The role requires substantial, verifiable Central Office experience, prior crew leadership, approved MOP execution, and knowledge of applicable carrier standards, including TP76300 where assigned. General telecommunications, outside-plant, or commercial cabling experience alone is not enough. Every project is subject to customer audit. Attention to detail, timely field completion, and a clean, passing customer audit are core expectations of this Level 4 role.
A strong candidate can walk us through a CO project they personally led: what was installed, how many people were on the crew, what power and safety controls were required, and how the job was documented and closed out.
Core Responsibilities:
– Lead job-start installation walkthroughs with customer representatives to verify installation scope, site restrictions, equipment locations, access and escort requirements, safety controls, and material readiness.
– Perform and lead installation of Central Office transmission, switching, routing, transport, and supporting telecommunications equipment, racks, bays, cable rack, and pathways.
– Install and terminate approved -48V DC power cabling, BDFB/fuse panel connections, grounding, bonding, and equipment power leads; perform power-work activities only when qualified and authorized under approved MOPs.
– Install, route, lace, secure, terminate, label, and test fiber, copper, coaxial, power, and grounding cables to customer standards.
– Read and interpret job specifications, floor plans, equipment drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, schematics, MOPs, and test records; document discrepancies with actual site conditions.
– Assign daily work to Level 2 and Level 3 technicians, provide hands-on guidance, conduct safety briefings, and track progress; escalate obstacles early to protect agreed completion dates.
– Inspect crew work daily for workmanship, routing, labeling, terminations, test results, and customer standards; correct deficiencies before customer audit and support customer acceptance.
– Check field measurements and delivered materials against the issued drawings and BOM; flag missing or incorrect parts, assumed dimensions, and design conflicts to Engineering/PM for resolution before affected work proceeds.
– Perform approved equipment testing, turn-up, alarm verification, and integration; escalate scope changes and issues requiring customer or Engineering authorization.
– Prepare complete, audit-ready daily reports and as-builts, including marked-up drawings, equipment/cable schedules, labeled photos, test results, punch lists, and closeout records.
Be capable of performing the following work operations/job activities without supervision or direction:
– Own daily Central Office installation activities, crew workmanship, attention to detail, safety, accurate documentation, and progress toward the agreed schedule.
– Identify and escalate execution risks, access constraints, missing materials, and design discrepancies; obtain Engineering approval for drawing/BOM changes and PM/customer approval for scope changes.
– Maintain required customer and company documents, including approved MOPs, work schedules, test records, quality photos, and completion reports.
– Verify crew time and expenses, report progress against milestones, and promptly escalate materials, access, design, or customer issues affecting completion.
– Train Level 2/3 technicians, check their work before customer review, and ensure punch-list items and audit findings are corrected promptly.
The expectation: Complete assigned field work on time with careful workmanship, complete audit records, and a clean, passing customer audit; address any findings promptly.
Specific duties may vary or evolve over time based on business and client needs.
Core Experience:
– High school diploma or GED; technical school training in telecommunications, electronics, or related field preferred.
– Minimum eight years of relevant telecommunications installation field experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience as determined by company management.
– Direct hands-on carrier Central Office installation experience required; five or more years specifically in Central Offices strongly preferred.
– Prior experience leading Central Office installation crews required.
– Demonstrated work with -48V DC distribution, fuse panels/BDFBs, equipment power connections, approved MOPs, and Central Office closeout.
– Able to describe a recent carrier Central Office installation personally led, including crew size, equipment and power work, safety controls, and completed closeout.
Physical/Work Environment:
At Pearce safety is our number one concern. Candidates must be able to comply with OSHA Standards.
– Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push/pull equipment up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, walk, stand for extended periods, and work in restricted areas.
– Use the installation tools, test equipment, electronic documentation systems, and PPE appropriate to the assignment.
