Developer Advocate, Community
Location: Remote US
About the role
Yugabyte has redefined the data infrastructure developers use for distributed Postgres applications and multi-agent AI systems. As a Developer Advocate focused on Yugabyte’s rapidly growing community, you will energize the developers building with YugabyteDB, YugabyteDB AMP (Agentic Multitenant Postgres), and Meko, our agent-native data platform that gives multi-agent systems shared memory and knowledge.
You will own community programs end-to-end, including workshops, meetups, hackathons, partner events, and the online spaces where developers ask questions, share what they built, and help each other. Success in this role means more developers showing up, building something real, and coming back. You will work closely with product, engineering, marketing, and the rest of the DevRel team, and you will bring what you hear from the community into the roadmap. Most importantly, you will collaborate with the rest of our Developer Advocacy team to present a unified, global approach to how we work with devs. This is a fun role on a fun team at the most important (and fun) time in our company’s history. Should be fun!
What you’ll do
Grow the community
- Build and run a community growth plan across YugabyteDB, YugabyteDB AMP, and Meko, with goals for membership, active participation, and contribution.
- Run and grow the Yugabyte community Slack and Discord, and build an active presence in the channels where developers already gather, including Reddit, GitHub, Stack Overflow, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and X.
- Launch programs that recognize and reward participation, such as a community champions program, contributor spotlights, and regular office hours.
- Turn active community members into speakers, authors, sample app contributors, and meetup hosts.
Run hands-on events
- Design and deliver workshops that take developers from first install to a working app, including labs on building agent memory with Meko and multi-tenant Postgres applications on YugabyteDB AMP.
- Launch and scale Yugabyte-run meetups in key developer hubs, and support community-led chapters with playbooks, content, and swag.
- Organize virtual and in-person hackathons, including AI agent hackathons built on Meko and YugabyteDB.
- Represent Yugabyte at developer conferences such as KubeCon, PGConf.dev, Linux Foundation events, and AI engineering conferences, running demos, workshops, and booth sessions.
- Contribute community programming to Yugabyte’s Distributed SQL Summit, such as hands-on labs, community tracks, and DevRel sessions.
Build with partners
- Co-host workshops, meetups, and hackathons with cloud, AI framework, and open source ecosystem partners.
- Create sample apps, integrations, and tutorials that show YugabyteDB, AMP, and Meko working alongside the agent frameworks, developer tools, and cloud platforms developers already use.
- Build relationships with user groups and open source projects in the Postgres, Kubernetes, and AI agent communities.
Create content the community uses
- Produce demos, tutorials, sample apps, blogs, livestreams, and webinars, both live and recorded.
- Package workshops into reusable kits and starter templates that community leaders and partners can run on their own.
- Hold developer-facing content, quickstarts, and getting-started paths to a high bar for clarity and accuracy.
Be the voice of the developer
- Collect feedback from community channels, events, and hackathons, and bring it to product and engineering in a form they can act on.
- Track and report community health, including growth, engagement, event attendance, and conversion to active usage.
- Help shape the DevRel strategy, processes, and tooling, including community platforms and event tech stack.
What you bring
- 5+ years in developer relations, developer advocacy, or developer community management, including programs you built from the ground up.
- A track record of growing an online developer community on Slack, Discord, or a similar platform.
- Experience planning and running in-person events such as meetups, workshops, or hackathons.
- Hands-on technical skills, including building demos and sample apps and working comfortably with SQL and Postgres.
- Familiarity with, and creative ideas for AI agent development, LLM frameworks, vector search, or a demonstrated ability to get up to speed fast.
- Experience in open source communities as a contributor, maintainer, or community organizer.
- Confidence presenting and facilitating, both live and on camera.
- An active social presence and following in a relevant developer community.
- Comfort working autonomously in a fast-moving startup. B2B SaaS or infrastructure experience is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Experience with distributed databases, Kubernetes, or cloud infrastructure.
- Experience running ambassador or champion programs.
- Experience running co-marketing or joint events with technology partners.
Success in year one, in conjunction with our DevRel team
- Community membership across Slack and other channels grows to 10X
- Dozens of workshops, hackathons, and meetups delivered
- At least a dozen hackathons run, focused on AI agents built with Meko.
- Ten partner co-hosted events delivered.
- A champions program launched with 50+ active members.
