Join Our Team...
The Enablement team builds and operates the Linux Patching Automation (LPA) platform — a multi-cluster AWX automation system that keeps GoDaddy's entire Linux fleet patched and secure. Each cluster is a self-contained AWX instance, provisioned end-to-end via Terraform and Ansible on private infrastructure. The team owns observability tooling (Loki, Mimir, Grafana), ServiceNow integrations, and an automated vulnerability remediation process powered by artificial intelligence!
The platform is growing: new internal consumers, Kubernetes-aware patching, AI-driven vulnerability remediation, and an observability stack that needs real alerting. We're hiring a Senior SRE to own critical feature areas independentlywithin 12 months the expectation is SME status in two or more areas and active contribution to architectural decisions alongside the team's Staff leads!
What you'll get to do...
- Own the Kubernetes-aware patching path: cordon/drain/uncordon coordination, etcd quorum gating, per-cluster lock prioritisation, and deadlock prevention — the team's most technically demanding active work area.
- Own cluster onboarding end-to-end and drive lead time from weeks to days; identify friction points, document repeatable steps, and build runbooks so each successive onboarding is faster than the last.
- Own the Vault integration surface: AppRole credential management, PKI certificate lifecycle, Vault-backed AWX credential types, and IAM key rotation toward a clean, maintainable credential model with solid test coverage.
- Build meaningful alerting so the team learns about patching failures from dashboards — not customer tickets. Own at least one Grafana dashboard area end-to-end: metrics ingestion through actionable alert rules. Contribute to AI/automation initiatives including the AI-driven vulnerability remediation pipeline and other tooling that reduces toil for the whole team.
- Mentor junior contributors among colleagues, participate in code review, and contribute to architectural decisions alongside Staff leads. Participate in the on-call rotation and own incident response independently at the Senior level — timeline, communication, and blameless postmortem.
Your experience should include..
- 7+ years of hands-on Site Reliability Engineering or infrastructure engineering experience in a production environment.
- Ansible — strong practitioner: writes idempotent roles and playbooks independently, understands variable precedence, handlers, and molecule-style testing.
- Linux systems administration — yum/dnf, systemd, kernel patching, and diagnosing package conflicts; the platform patches Linux hosts and this is non-negotiable.
- Kubernetes — operational depth: pod scheduling, node lifecycle, and etcd quorum awareness; not just running kubectl apply.
- Terraform / IaC — able to read, modify, and write modules configured through variable files; cluster provisioning work requires IaC literacy.
- Python scripting — enough to own and extend utility scripts and the machine learning-based vulnerability pipeline.
- GitHub Actions and CI pipelines — comfortable with ansible-lint, Semgrep gates, and conventional commit standards.
- On-call and incident response — prior rotation experience; able to own an incident independently. AI-assisted development — team co-authors commits with AI tools daily; active participation is encouraged, not optional.
- SLI / SLO literacy — able to contribute to defining and instrumenting service-level objectives as the team formalizes its reliability framework.
You might also have...
- HashiCorp Vault — AppRole, PKI, or dynamic secrets; Vault responsibilities are ongoing on the team. AWX / Automation Controller operational experience — not required but accelerates ramp.
- ServiceNow — CMDB, Change Orders, or REST API integration.
- Grafana / Loki / Prometheus — building dashboards and alert rules.
- MySQL replica awareness — replica detection precheck work is active.
- HAProxy or LB-aware drain logic — relevant to concurrent patching coordination.
- OpenStack or comparable private cloud / bare-metal exposure. Experience identifying and reducing process lead time — handoff delays, wait states, or manual steps that can be automated.
We encourage you to apply even if your experience or skillset doesn’t align perfectly with every requirement. We value a wide range of backgrounds and transferable skills, and we are excited to support learning and growth.
