Job Summary
We're looking for a passionate Software Engineer Intern who is eager to learn, grow, and make a real impact on how patients and providers get the right health content. This is a remote internship, with an in-person onboarding week at our Cincinnati office, where you will work side-by-side with experienced engineers, product managers, and senior developers, gaining hands-on experience across the full product development lifecycle.
You'll contribute to designing, building, and optimizing our Content Intelligence platform while taking ownership of your work, proposing creative solutions, and bringing fresh perspectives to complex technical challenges. This is your chance to join a dynamic engineering environment where your ideas and code will shape the future of patient engagement. We foster a positive, win-win culture where interns are valued contributors, not just observers.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features that enhance our Content Intelligence capabilities.
- Develop, test, and deploy scalable services using modern frameworks and cloud technologies.
- Work in an AI-first, agentic development lifecycle (Agentic DLC), using AI agents and assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot across the full product lifecycle: requirements, specs, design, development, testing, and deployment, with engineers reviewing every step.
- Help build AI-powered capabilities such as content chatbots and full-text and vector (semantic) search that help patients, providers, and our teams find the right health content.
- Build and deliver functionality with a security-first culture: secure coding, automated code and dependency scanning, secrets management, and least-privilege access built into every change.
- Learn and apply best practices in software engineering, including code reviews, CI/CD, and performance optimization.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and improve existing components for reliability and performance
- Contribute to architectural discussions and explore emerging technologies that can elevate product performance and developer experience.
- Engage with test automation, performance testing, and CI/CD deployments
What You'll Gain
- Technical Growth: Build real-world skills in AI-assisted (agentic) software development, AI-powered search and chatbots, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and cloud-native development
- Industry Exposure: Training on best-in-class enterprise technology tools and development practices
- Mentorship: Direct collaboration with experienced engineers who invest in your development
- Business Acumen: Understand how technology drives patient engagement and healthcare outcomes
- Networking: Meaningful connections through events, mentorships, and cross-functional team projects
- Portfolio Impact: Contribute to production systems that serve millions of patients
What We Need
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- Solid programming skills in Java, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Strong CS fundamentals and problem-solving ability such as data structures, algorithms, computer networks, etc.
- Interest in building distributed systems and event-driven applications.
- Willingness to dive into different parts of the development, test automations, performance tests to deployment scripts.
- Familiarity with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior internship or project experience with AI agents, LLM applications, search, or developer productivity tools.
- Awareness of secure coding practices (for example, the OWASP Top 10)
- Familiarity with REST APIs, cloud environments, or container-based deployment (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Interest in AI and LLM applications, such as chatbots, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or full-text and vector search
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to learn in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills are important.
- Demonstrates courage to ask questions and challenge assumptions
