Optical Metrology Intern Summer 2027

The Position Metalenz is at the forefront of developing next-generation biometric sensing systems for consumer electronics, leveraging metasurface devices. We are actively seeking a talented and motivated student to join our team and contribute to the development of this cutting-edge technology. As an intern, you'll have the unique opportunity to collaborate with a team of experts in the field, developing improved metrology hardware and techniques to characterize metasurfaces and metasurface devices.  What you’ll do  - Apply your PhD work to our problems, learn about cutting-edge products Metalenz is developing, and get a taste for what it takes to productize meta-optics - Build and characterize an improved optical set up to measure polarization response of our devices - Characterize novel devices to help improve how we design and build our devices. - Learn about qualifying metrology for high volume manufacturing, What you’ll need  - Currently working on a PhD in Optics, Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related field. - Strong hands-on optics experience, ideally including polarimetry. Familiarity with measurement of metrics like MTF and quantum efficiency. - Optical design experience, preferably using programs like Zemax - Experience using CAD and with optomechanical design. - Data and statistical analysis experience (e.g., programs like jmp, R, MATLAB). Experience with sensitivity analysis of optical systems, and systematic and random error assessment. - Proven ability to work independently - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. - Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. The base compensation range for this position is $5,500 - $8,500 per month. Our compensation ranges are determined by role and experience level. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the noted geographic area.
