At PMAT, we work on mission critical systems that directly support the warfighter, designing, building, and securing modern digital capabilities across cloud, data, and software environments. Our teams tackle complex, real-world challenges where delivery matters more than theory, and innovation is driven by curiosity, collaboration, and purpose.
In this role, you’ll contribute to Naval Operational Architecture (NOA), working alongside engineers and operators to deliver resilient, forward-leaning solutions in support of national defense.
About the role: PMAT is seeking an experienced Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to support enterprise architecture development, digital engineering, and system-of-systems (SoS) integration across Navy operational and technical environments. This role will help establish and maintain standardized architecture development processes, governance frameworks, data structures, and modeling practices that enable consistent engineering and informed decision-making across the organization. The candidate will collaborate with systems engineers, mission engineering teams, cybersecurity personnel, data engineers, and Palantir developers to integrate architectural models, operational data, and engineering artifacts into connected digital environments, including Maven Smart System (MSS). The role requires strong systems engineering fundamentals, expertise in model-based methodologies, and the ability to translate operational requirements into structured architectures, data models, and actionable engineering insights supporting capability development, integration, and sustainment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide architecture development processes, governance frameworks, modeling standards, and engineering practices to ensure consistency, traceability, and interoperability across organizational systems and capabilities.
- Apply MBSE methodologies to support system and SoS requirements development, architecture design, analysis, integration, verification, validation, and sustainment throughout the acquisition lifecycle.
- Define and maintain enterprise data dictionaries, data structures, relationships, and metadata standards that identify authoritative data sources, establish common definitions, and connect operational questions to the data required to answer them.
- Collaborate with Palantir development teams to capture, structure, and integrate architecture models, operational data, and engineering information within MSS, leveraging approaches demonstrated through initiatives such as WARPATH and SWIO.
- Coordinate with Mission Engineering teams to align enterprise architectures, operational mission threads, system interfaces, and technical requirements with product development and integration activities.
- Develop and maintain a connected digital thread across systems engineering, mission engineering, cybersecurity, configuration management, acquisition, and other engineering disciplines to improve traceability and technical decision-making.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze architecture models, system relationships, interfaces, operational workflows, and technical dependencies using established MBSE frameworks, modeling languages, and digital engineering environments.
- Support cybersecurity integration throughout the engineering and acquisition lifecycle by incorporating security requirements, identifying architectural risks, evaluating system dependencies, and documenting cybersecurity considerations within system models and engineering artifacts.
- Provide technical analysis and architectural recommendations supporting Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETRs), Platform Technical Review Boards (PTRBs), Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), and other engineering governance activities.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, architecture diagrams, data models, technical reports, analysis products, and leadership briefings while coordinating with engineering teams and organizational stakeholders to support architecture adoption and continuous improvement.
About Us: PMAT is an innovative small business founded with a passion for developing forward-leaning solutions from exceptional people that increase the mission's capability. We focus on designing and building impactful digital solutions that utilize modern cloud, data, and software concepts. Our passion is working on complex and progressive challenges such as edge platform computing, containerizing legacy platforms, distributed data platforms, or heterogeneous data analysis.
We recruit, retain, and foster a team motivated to pursue passions, investigate new ways of doing things, and embody an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. We believe in being curious about every element of a problem and experiment relentlessly. We foster continuous learning in an environment that encourages positive collaboration and expands our capabilities. We tap into collective intelligence, acknowledging that the most brilliant people may not be in the room. Above all else, we believe that delivering and demonstrating is more potent than a sheet of paper. We are passionate about mission-centric design and delivering effective capabilities to and for the warfighter.
Whether you’re an experienced engineer or just beginning your career, you’ll work alongside experts who are committed to solving mission-critical problems. If you’re passionate about using your skills to make a real difference, apply today and become part of a team that’s shaping the future of defense technology!
