Senior UX Designer — Kamiwaza ROLE OVERVIEW Kamiwaza is hiring a Senior UX Designer to make complex enterprise AI workflows clear, useful, and trustworthy. Reporting to the CTO, you will turn customer needs into experiences that help people connect data, work with AI agents, and collaborate confidently. This is a full-time remote position for candidates based in the United States who can collaborate within U.S. business hours. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. The interview will take place in person in Colorado. Kamiwaza will coordinate the arrangements and cover reasonable travel and lodging expenses. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role spanning research, interaction and visual design, prototyping, and design systems. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and customer-facing teams, carrying design decisions from discovery through implementation review and post-release learning. We use AI throughout our work and expect strong human judgment about what to build and whether it works. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Research real customer workflows with Product, commercial users, and Federal-team proxies. Understand the goals and constraints of administrators, operators, and end users; make assumptions explicit and validate them with evidence. - Make the product easier to learn and use by simplifying workflows and interfaces across onboarding, application discovery, data connections, agent interactions, permissions, and collaboration. Reduce unnecessary steps and confusion, and make progress, empty states, errors, and recovery paths clear. - Design AI experiences that communicate capabilities and limits, make sources and results inspectable, and give people appropriate control over approvals, corrections, and consequential actions. - Own interaction and visual design: information architecture, flows, responsive layouts, interface copy, and polished prototypes. Run practical usability studies, compare alternatives, and refine the experience from what people actually do. - Partner with Marketing and Engineering to develop accessible, brand-aligned interface patterns, shared style values (design tokens for colors, typography, and spacing), and guidance that engineers and AI tools can apply consistently. Cover keyboard interaction, focus, contrast, and meaningful states, and test how the guidance works in real interfaces. - Use AI for research synthesis, exploration, interactive prototyping, critique, and documentation. Validate material outputs against sources and user evidence, protect confidential information, and remain accountable for the resulting design decisions. - Partner with Engineering on feasibility, implementation details, and release quality. Review working software against design intent and usability findings, then follow up after release. Engineering owns production implementation. - Make priorities and trade-offs explicit with Product, which owns product strategy and prioritization. Partner with Marketing to translate brand standards into product experiences; Marketing retains brand and naming authority. - Define success measures with Product and Engineering, including task completion, time-to-value, adoption, usability, and consistent implementation. Use those signals to guide improvements and make their impact visible. INITIAL SUCCESS EXPECTATIONS - In your first few months, establish a shared understanding of priority customer journeys and a practical cadence for discovery and usability testing. - Partner with the team to ship a focused workflow improvement, establish a baseline, and show what changed for users through observation and available product data. - Put an initial set of accessible patterns and design guidance into use on a live product flow, aligned with Marketing’s brand work and improved through engineering feedback. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - A record of senior-level ownership of complex software experiences, with shipped outcomes and clear evidence of your individual contribution. - Strong interaction and visual-design craft, including information hierarchy, typography, layout, responsive behavior, and clear interface writing. - Demonstrated understanding of branding and experience translating brand strategy, visual identity, and tone of voice into usable, accessible product experiences in partnership with Marketing. - Practical research skills: framing questions, interviewing users, observing workflows, testing usability, and turning findings into design decisions. - Demonstrated judgment in ambiguous situations: identify the underlying need, challenge assumptions, explain trade-offs, and choose a useful, feasible scope. - Fluency with AI-assisted design workflows, including interactive prototyping, and the ability to explain how you validate outputs and handle sensitive information. - Experience applying accessible design principles and reusable patterns to real products. - Effective collaboration with engineers through implementation and release, with enough technical understanding to discuss constraints and evaluate working behavior. - Clear written and verbal communication, a constructive approach to critique, and a portfolio showing decisions, validation, and results. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience designing enterprise software, data platforms, developer tools, or products with complex permissions and collaboration. - Experience with AI agents, retrieval, generated content, or other interfaces where outcomes are uncertain and user control matters. - Experience building and evolving a design system that teams actually adopt, including tokens and guidance for AI-assisted implementation. - Ability to create prototypes in code or work closely with engineers on them; production-engineering ownership is not required. - Experience learning from customers in security-conscious or regulated environments, including through field teams when direct access is constrained. WHY JOIN US? - Purpose & Impact: Help people put enterprise AI to work with their own data. - Broad Ownership: Shape workflows from discovery through release and learning. - AI in Daily Practice: Explore new ways to research, prototype, and improve products with AI. - Close Collaboration: Work directly with technical leaders, engineers, and customer teams. - Lasting Influence: Build design foundations that improve decisions across the product. - High Autonomy: Bring ideas, test them, and make their value visible in a small, driven team. WHO WE ARE - Kamiwaza builds an enterprise AI platform for connecting data and running AI applications on organizations’ own infrastructure and private clouds. - Our approach is curious, humble, and relentless. - We are fun, kind, and care deeply about our impact without taking ourselves too seriously. - We operate with urgency and think for the long term. Action creates clarity. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Annual base salary: $160,000–$235,000 USD, plus equity and benefits. Individual offers will account for experience, expected impact, and location. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; disability and life insurance; a 401(k) with a 4% match; FSA/HSA options; paid time off; and remote-work support. HOW TO APPLY Include your resume and portfolio or equivalent case studies. Show the problem, your role, alternatives, decisions, validation, and results after release. Highlight a complex workflow you simplified and a time user evidence changed your direction. Show how you applied brand standards while balancing consistency, accessibility, and usability, and how AI improved your design process and how you validated its output.
