About the role
SalesforceCRMNetSuiteREST APIsMarketing AutomationCommunication
We are seeking a skilled Salesforce Developer with a strong foundation in both declarative configuration and programmatic development. This is a hybrid role, requiring the ability to think like an Administrator and build like a Developer, always defaulting to out-of-the-box (OOTB) functionality before reaching for code.
The role works across our Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, CPQ, and Account Engagement implementations, contributing to solution design, automation, custom development, and the ongoing health of our Salesforce org. It requires thinking critically about data architecture, understanding the downstream impacts of design decisions, and being a strong advocate for clean, maintainable solutions.
Salesforce is one part of a connected enterprise systems landscape, and this role will also support the integrations that connect Salesforce to other business systems, including our ERP (NetSuite), billing, and other platforms.
Important: This role is based in India and sits within a globally distributed Salesforce team; the company is headquartered in Los Angeles, CA. Candidates should expect to make themselves available as needed for stand-ups, 1:1s, and other team meetings that overlap with Pacific business hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Time).
As a member of the Enterprise Systems team, you will be encouraged, supported, and expected to continually deepen your Salesforce expertise, take ownership of the quality of your flows, code, and documentation, and provide guidance to less technical members of the team.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
To be successful in this role the incumbent will demonstrate the following:
Essential:
- 3+ years of hands-on Salesforce experience spanning both administration and development.
- Proven expertise in declarative automation, particularly Flow Builder, as a first-choice solution.
- Solid Apex development skills with a strong understanding of bulkification, trigger frameworks, and test class construction.
- Experience with Sales Cloud and Service Cloud configuration and development.
- Experience with Salesforce CPQ (Products, Pricing, Quote configuration).
- Demonstrated ability to design and reason about data models, object relationships, and cross-object impacts.
- Working knowledge of Salesforce integration patterns and APIs (REST/SOAP, Platform Events, Named Credentials, External Services), with an understanding of how data flows between Salesforce and connected systems.
- Strong understanding of the Salesforce security model: profiles, roles, permission sets, OWD, and sharing rules.
- Critical thinking and analytical skills: able to assess trade-offs and recommend the right tool for the problem.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Certifications (Strongly Preferred):
- Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator.
- Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder.
- Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I.
- Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator II or Platform Developer II (desirable). Candidates actively pursuing certifications who can demonstrate equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
Desirable:
- Experience with Account Engagement (Pardot), including the Salesforce connector and campaign management.
- Familiarity with Lightning Web Components (LWC) development.
- Experience with Salesforce CLI / SFDX and source-driven development practices.
- Exposure to DevOps tooling for Salesforce.
- Experience with Salesforce-NetSuite integration (middleware, API-based sync, or connectors); NetSuite is Criteria's ERP of record and this is a closely related skill set the team does not currently have dedicated coverage for.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role include:
Solution Design & Architecture
- Design scalable, maintainable solutions that prioritise declarative approaches (Flows, Validation Rules, and standard configuration) before considering custom code.
- Evaluate the data model and object relationships to ensure structural integrity across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, CPQ, and Account Engagement.
- Translate requirements from the CRM Engineering Manager and sprint backlog into sound Salesforce solutions.
- Proactively identify risks in proposed designs, including data volume, governor limits, and cross-cloud impacts.
Declarative Development
- Build and maintain complex, multi-branch Flows (Screen Flows, Record-Triggered Flows, Scheduled Flows, and Autolaunched Flows).
- Configure and manage Validation Rules, Formula Fields, Process Automations, and Assignment Rules.
- Manage page layouts, Lightning App Builder, dynamic forms, and record types to deliver tailored user experiences.
- Administer CPQ configuration including Products, Price Books, Quote Templates, and Approval Processes.
Programmatic Development
- Write clean, well-commented Apex classes, triggers, and batch jobs that adhere to Salesforce best practices and governor limit awareness.
- Develop and maintain Lightning Web Components (LWC) where declarative tools cannot meet requirements.
- Write comprehensive Apex test classes with a minimum of 75% code coverage, targeting as high as possible.
- Use SOQL and SOSL responsibly, with an understanding of query optimisation and selective filtering.
- Participate in code reviews, ensuring standards, commenting conventions, and debug logging are consistently applied.
Administration & Platform Stewardship
- Manage user profiles, roles, permission sets, and sharing rules to maintain a secure and well-governed org.
- Support data management activities including import, deduplication, and data quality monitoring.
- Maintain sandbox environments and manage deployments via Change Sets or preferred metadata tooling (SFDX / Salesforce CLI).
- Assist in troubleshooting org issues, debug log analysis, and root-cause analysis of automation failures.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Receive, prioritise, and execute tasks from the team's sprint backlog as assigned by the CRM Engineering Manager, working closely with the manager to deliver pragmatic solutions.
- Document solutions clearly, including data dictionaries, flow documentation, and technical decision logs.
- Stay current with Salesforce release notes (three releases per year) and proactively assess impact on the org.
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and support the uplift of less technical team members.
Key Performance Indicators
- Solutions consistently default to declarative tools, with custom code used only when justified.
- Apex and Flow deployments meet quality standards, including test coverage and code review requirements.
- Salesforce org health is maintained across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, CPQ, and Account Engagement, with minimal recurring defects.
- Sprint backlog items are delivered on time and aligned with CRM Engineering Manager priorities.
- Documentation (data dictionaries, flow docs, decision logs) is kept current and accessible to the team.
