Software Engineer (Scala / Java) – Cloud Backend

One of our teams is looking for a new teammate. They’re reinventing how our SAFEQ platform scales and stays stable, and they need someone who enjoys variety more than a single narrow lane. WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON: - Redesigning the scalability and stability of our backend with RabbitMQ, Scala and Akka - The infrastructure around it: OpenTofu, Ansible, Kubernetes - Fixing bugs across SAFEQ Cloud and SAFEQ 6 - Occasional mobile work: Android (Kotlin) and iOS (Swift) - Presenting increments to other teams and stakeholders - Using AI tools as a normal part of your daily development WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU: - Medior-level experience or more - Solid OOP experience in Java, Scala, C# or a similar language - Hands-on experience using AI in your development work - Basic QA knowledge: testing your code and knowing how to verify it works - Awareness of cloud: AWS, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code - Readiness to work across different projects, components and technologies - Willingness to present your work to people outside the team - Fluent Czech or Slovak and working English Nice to have: Scala or functional programming experience Hands-on AWS (or another cloud provider), Kubernetes, IaC Switching context without losing your mind Working well both on your own and in a team Tech we use: Backend: Scala, Akka, Java Messaging: RabbitMQ Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, OpenTofu, Ansible Mobile: Kotlin (Android), Swift (iOS) Development: AI-assisted development ABOUT US: We’re Cirrus, a team of seven engineers based in Brno. We meet in the office once a week. The rest of the time we work remotely, with an open Teams call running all day for whoever wants to jump in. It’s not all greenfield, and we won’t pretend it is. Alongside the platform work, we fix production bugs, handle the DevOps around our services and now and then dive into the mobile apps. Working remotely is fine with us. We’d just like you to come to Brno 2-3 times a month at the start, and at least once a month after that. We’re an easy-going bunch and sometimes go out together after work.
