Who are we?
MATTE is a 360° full-service creative studio at the convergence of hype, storytelling and design. We bring people together to inspire new ways of engaging, to provoke long term progress, and to entertain audiences around the world, while helping forward-thinking brands and institutions nimbly and truly do the same. Our studio capabilities range from strategic ideation and insights, creative development, branding and identity, experiential, web design and development, campaigns and content creation, all the way through full-scale production and execution.
About this role:
MATTE is looking for a curious, visually driven Creative & AI Intern to join our team in New York. You’ll support brand, campaign, and experiential projects through visual research, presentation design, and creative exploration, including experimenting with AI image and motion tools. This is an opportunity to sharpen your design skills, learn how ideas take shape and get pitched, and bring a fresh perspective to the studio. Strong Figma skills, an eye for compelling layouts, and an interest in the intersection of AI and creativity are essential.
Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities
- Partner with the creative team on brand, campaign, and experiential work.
- Build out decks, presentations, and visual narratives that help pitch and sell ideas internally and to clients.
- Explore AI image generation and AI motion tools as part of real projects, helping the studio figure out where they genuinely speed up or improve creative output.
- Dig into reference, trends, and visual research to ground concepts before design work starts.
- Sit in on critiques and client-facing presentations to see how concepts get pitched, defended, and refined.
- Contribute to MATTE’s own brand and studio projects, with room to bring in new tools or techniques you’re curious about.
Desired Skills & Capabilities
- Comfortable in Figma — this is a must.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
- Hands-on interest or experience with AI image generation tools (Midjourney, DALL·E, etc.) and AI motion/video tools (Runway, Kling, etc.).
- Strong deck and presentation design & art direction sense — can turn ideas into clean, compelling slides.
- Solid foundation in typography, layout, and composition.
- Organized and able to juggle multiple projects without dropping details.
- Curious, proactive, and genuinely excited about where AI and design intersect.
