About the role
Incident ResponseCybersecurityRisk ManagementElectrical Engineering
Vattenfall is a European energy company with approximately 21000 employees. For more than 100 years we have electrified industries, supplied energy to people’s homes and modernized our way of living through innovation and cooperation. We now want to make fossil-free living possible within one generation. To be able to reach this ambitious goal we are looking for talented individuals who, in addition to their passion for their own role, also have strong team spirit and want to contribute to supporting a meaningful corporate mission.
Are you an experienced telecommunications engineer who wants to help us build and maintain secure and reliable safety-critical and business-critical telecommunications systems? Would you like to apply your technical expertise in an operational technology environment supporting the future of renewable energy?
The Service Manager Telecom is responsible for the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of the services delivered by the service team in line with agreed service levels and business expectations. A Telecom Service Manager owns service delivery, lifecycle management, security, backlog management, stakeholder coordination, and operational performance for telecom-related OT services.

You will combine hands-on telecommunication engineering and incident resolution with functional leadership of a dedicated service team of radio and telecom engineers. Alongside your own technical assignments, you will prioritise the team’s work, coordinate suppliers and support functions, and drive continual improvement while meeting agreed service levels.
Working closely with customers, stakeholders and the Asset Service Area OT O&M Manager, you will help develop standardised, proactive service delivery that combines effective incident response with preventive maintenance, lifecycle planning and long-term service improvement.

Be in your element with BA Wind
Our wind, solar and batteries business offers a unique opportunity to be in your element, working to help harness the forces that will take us to fossil freedom.
As part of BA Wind, you will play a key role in one of the most exciting pipelines in the industry, with 24 GW of capacity stretching out more than a decade ahead across our key European markets.
You will contribute to the reliable operation and long-term performance of our renewable-energy assets. Working across technical and operational teams, you will help ensure that the systems and services supporting monitoring, control and operational data remain secure, reliable and fit for the future.
Working as part of a leading European utility also means you could be helping a growing number of major businesses and brands achieve their own sustainability goals through partnerships.
Your role
You will take responsibility for the delivery and performance of the services within your agreed scope, from their introduction into operation through ongoing support, improvement and eventual replacement or retirement. Your service scope covers monitoring, troubleshooting, corrective and preventive maintenance, and continuously improving our mission-critical telecommunications, tracking and surveillance systems, including TETRA, VHF/UHF radio systems, microwave links, radar, Automatic Identification System (AIS), Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B), Starlink, 4G/5G mobile connectivity and PBX systems, across our fleet of offshore and onshore wind farms.
This role combines hands-on senior telecom engineering with functional service leadership and does not include personnel line management. You will personally undertake engineering work within your technical expertise while coordinating and prioritising the service team’s activities, monitoring outcomes and making risks, dependencies and resource needs visible. Capability and capacity requirements will be aligned with the Asset Service Area OT O&M Manager, with resources requested from the respective line managers.
You will apply your practical engineering expertise to diagnose faults, restore services and implement controlled technical changes within your agreed scope and authorisation. You will provide technical guidance to colleagues, assess operational
risks and challenge proposed solutions, combining hands-on delivery with effective planning and coordination across organisational boundaries.
You will participate in the team’s on-call rotation, personally diagnosing and resolving incidents affecting critical telecommunications, tracking and surveillance systems outside normal working hours, within your agreed technical scope and authorisation. You will involve other engineers, suppliers and application or service owners when specialist support is required, follow agreed escalation arrangements and contribute to root-cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Service scope and support arrangements: Maintaining clear service definitions, ownership boundaries, agreed service levels, support responsibilities and escalation arrangements. Defining interfaces with adjacent application and infrastructure services in line with the agreed service mapping, customer expectations and guidance from the Asset Service Area OT O&M Manager.
· Service delivery and hands-on engineering: Managing reliable, secure and efficient day-to-day operation of telecommunications, tracking and surveillance systems including monitoring, incidents, service requests, problems, changes and lifecycle activities. Personally configuring, testing, commissioning, maintaining and improving assigned radio/telecom equipment and associated infrastructure services within your technical scope, approved procedures and authorisations, while balancing engineering assignments with service-leadership responsibilities and agreed priorities.
· Service performance: Monitoring performance against agreed service-level agreements (SLAs), key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational targets. Reporting on service availability, incident response and restoration, recurring issues, risks and improvement actions.
· Incident response and problem management: Personally diagnosing and resolving incidents affecting assigned telecommunications, tracking and surveillance systems, while coordinating additional engineers, OEMs, suppliers and support functions as required. Establishing the infrastructure impact on supported operational systems, ensuring timely service restoration and clear stakeholder updates, investigating root causes and implementing or assigning corrective and preventive actions, with follow-up to completion.
· Backlog and delivery planning: Managing and prioritising the service team’s backlog, dependencies and delivery plans based on higher-level guidance, operational impact, risk and available capacity. Planning your own engineering assignments alongside service-leadership responsibilities, balancing urgent operational needs with planned maintenance, lifecycle work and improvements, and making capacity trade-offs visible.
· Capability and capacity planning: Identifying the skills and capacity required to deliver agreed services and roadmap commitments, aligning them with the Asset Service Area OT O&M Manager, and requesting resources from the respective line managers and making the consequences of resource gaps visible.
· Lifecycle engineering and controlled change: Executing the agreed service roadmap through hands-on engineering and coordination of hardware upgrades, migrations, patching, configuration changes and lifecycle replacements. Preparing, implementing or reviewing assigned infrastructure changes, with appropriate assessment of dependencies and operational impact, testing, rollback arrangements, documentation and operational handover through approved processes.
· Supplier and stakeholder coordination: Coordinating contributions from suppliers, specialists and internal support functions, monitoring delivery against agreed responsibilities and service commitments, and following up on issues. Supporting technical and service-related purchasing or contract discussions with the responsible procurement and contract owners.
· Project requirements and transition to operations: Providing operations and maintenance requirements to projects whose deliverables will enter the service team’s scope. Agreeing operational acceptance criteria with the relevant stakeholders and participating in readiness reviews and handovers, checking configuration and asset records, monitoring, documentation, backup and recovery arrangements, supplier support, operational responsibilities and unresolved risks.
· Operational documentation and knowledge: Producing and maintaining technical documentation, configuration information, operational runbooks and troubleshooting guidance for your own engineering work. Ensuring that the service team maintains relevant service and asset records, clear support responsibilities, escalation arrangements and accessible operational knowledge.
· Continual improvement and technical guidance: Using service-performance data and operational experience to identify, prioritise and implement improvements that reduce recurring incidents and strengthen reliability, efficiency and supportability. Standardising repeatable services and work packages, contributing to technical reviews, and supporting colleagues through practical guidance, knowledge sharing and appropriate automation.
· Security, compliance and audit support: Ensuring that applicable cybersecurity, regulatory and operational requirements are incorporated into service delivery and lifecycle planning, in collaboration with the responsible service engineers, cybersecurity and compliance functions. Coordinating relevant evidence and follow-up actions for audits and reviews.
· Risk management and escalation: Maintaining visibility of service risks, dependencies, delivery constraints and outstanding decisions. Escalating issues beyond the service team’s mandate or capacity to the Asset Service Area OT O&M Manager and other responsible stakeholders, with clear recommendations and operational consequences.
Your profile: who are you?
You hold a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications engineering, electrical engineering or related discipline, or have built equivalent expertise through relevant professional experience. You have several years of hands-on experience in engineering, deployment and/or operations support for telecommunications, tracking and surveillance systems such as TETRA, VHF/UHF radio systems, microwave links, radar, AIS, ADS-B, Starlink, 4G/5G etc.
You understand the demands of supporting business-critical systems and can translate operational needs into clear priorities, responsibilities and delivery plans. The role may be subject to security clearance, and candidates must be able to meet the applicable screening requirements.
You bring knowledge and experience in:
· Operational service management: Applying structured incident, problem, service-request, change, configuration and lifecycle-management practices, with clear ownership, service levels and follow-up.
· Hands-on radio/ telecommunications engineering: Practical experience configuring, testing, commissioning, maintaining, operating and supporting mission-critical telecommunications, tracking and surveillance technologies, including TETRA, VHF/UHF radio systems, microwave links, radar, AIS, ADS-B, Starlink, 4G/5G and PBX systems.
· Service leadership and prioritisation: Coordinating multidisciplinary service teams and suppliers, managing backlogs and dependencies, identifying capacity requirements and resolving competing priorities within an agreed mandate.
· Operational resilience and secure infrastructure: Practical experience in remotely monitoring telecom equipment health, remote troubleshooting, managing approved access, and applying vulnerability handling, security patching and controlled-change practices.
· Service introduction and handover: Translating operations and maintenance needs into project requirements and acceptance criteria, assessing operational readiness and coordinating the transition of new or changed solutions into supported services.
