About the Role:
Ooma is seeking a hands-on revenue accounting leader to lead revenue accounting operations, revenue-related financial reporting, and internal controls across our product and service lines. This role offers the opportunity to lead a team, strengthen processes and systems, and serve as a trusted accounting partner to Sales, Legal, FP&A, Billing, and Operations.
We’re open to candidates at either the Senior Manager or Director level. Your title, responsibilities, and compensation will reflect your experience, technical expertise, and leadership skills. If you’re ready to take on broader leadership responsibilities, we encourage you to apply.
You will oversee accurate and timely revenue recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606, and support applicable SEC reporting requirements. The ideal candidate combines strong technical judgment with a practical understanding of the business, takes ownership of outcomes, anticipates issues, and drives improvements in how the team operates.
**This is a hybrid position that is required in the office Mondays and Tuesdays
What You’ll Do:
- Own revenue accounting and the monthly and quarterly close end to end, from revenue recognition and general ledger recording through preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial reporting. Ensure accurate, complete, and timely results by maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the order-to-cash cycle—including order management, fulfillment, billing, and collections—and partnering closely with cross-functional teams.
- Investigate and resolve complex accounting discrepancies and unusual transactions independently, bringing sound judgment and a solutions-oriented mindset to issues before they become problems.
- Build and maintain a deep understanding of Ooma's revenue streams, pricing models, and the order-to-cash cycle, partnering closely with Sales, Billing, and Operations to keep revenue accounting accurate and complete.
- Lead revenue performance analysis, clearly explaining results, key drivers, and business implications to senior management. Prepare and review audit schedules, revenue disclosures, and financial metrics supporting SEC reporting and external audits, keeping the team audit-ready year-round.
- Serve as the team's go-to expert on ASC 606, US GAAP, and SEC guidance, anticipating the accounting implications of new products, contracts, and business changes before being asked.
- Partner proactively with Sales, Legal, FP&A, Billing, and Operations on new products, pricing, acquisitions, and business changes, balancing compliance with practical business needs.
- Own the design, documentation, and ongoing effectiveness of internal controls over revenue recognition, ensuring SOX compliance and resolving control gaps before they surface in audit.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors on revenue matters, communicating clearly and confidently through walkthroughs and audit inquiries.
- Challenge inefficient processes and drive improvements in revenue systems and automation, partnering with IT and Finance Systems to raise the bar on accuracy and scale.
- Coach and develop the revenue accounting team, setting clear expectations and accountability while building a capable team that Finance leadership and cross-functional partners trust.
Experience We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in revenue accounting and 3+ years directly managing and developing accounting professionals. For Director-level consideration, 10+ years of progressive accounting experience and 5+ years of people leadership are preferred, with demonstrated ownership of a revenue accounting function.
- Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606, and SEC reporting requirements; Big Four or combined public/industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience owning or significantly managing revenue accounting operations in a public-company or similarly complex environment, with strong SOX compliance and audit readiness.
- Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, revenue analyses, and reporting schedules, and independently managing close cycles and related internal controls.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end revenue processes — order management through general ledger reporting — ideally in a SaaS, subscription, or recurring-revenue business.
- Experience evaluating complex customer contracts and new revenue arrangements; experience supporting acquisitions or new product launches a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with strong ERP, systems, and Excel/data analysis skills, and the adaptability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills — able to explain complex accounting matters clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences and build trust as a partner to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
