About Hello Heart: Hello Heart is on a mission to make heart attacks a thing of the past. We’re an AI company focused exclusively on heart health, building a platform that predicts and prevents cardiac events before they happen—identifying risk up to 10 days in advance versus 10 years in traditional clinical models. This is already working at scale. Hello Heart has been shown to reduce inpatient hospital days by 47% and deliver ~$1,800 in annual savings per member. Hello Heart is the cardiac prevention partner to over 80% of large U.S. health plans and serves hundreds of public and private employers. We’re defining how the #1 cause of death—heart disease—is managed in the AI era. Join us. About the role We are looking for an experienced Engineering Team Lead who excels at people management, cross-team collaboration, and driving execution across organizational boundaries. Your group sits at the intersection of product, operations, finance, and external partnerships. The team's work spans client implementation and integrations, an in-house billing system, a backoffice platform serving internal operations, and a data integrations pipeline connecting Hello Heart to vendors, health plans, and enterprise clients. A significant part of the role involves working closely with US-based teams — including Operations and Finance — and occasionally joining technical calls with external clients and partners. This is a role for someone who combines deep technical judgment with the communication skills and organizational awareness to operate effectively across teams and time zones. Responsibilities - Lead and develop a team of four experienced backend engineers — setting technical direction, running effective processes, and growing individual capabilities. - Maintain and raise the technical quality of systems spanning client integrations, billing, backoffice, and vendor pipelines — upholding standards across code quality, reliability, security, and maintainability. - Drive the technical design and execution of client onboarding and integration projects — working across internal teams and directly with external technical stakeholders when needed. - Partner closely with Product, Operations, Finance, and external client teams to translate complex requirements into reliable technical solutions. - Stay hands-on — contribute to design, code review, and critical implementation where it matters most. - Drive adoption of AI tools and engineering workflows that improve team throughput and output quality. Technology stack - Languages & frameworks: Scala, Play Framework, Node.js - Frontend: React Native, ReactJS - Cloud & infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, Docker - Databases: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis - Messaging & streaming: Kafka - CI/CD: Jenkins - Observability: Prometheus, Grafana Qualifications - 3-4 years leading or managing an engineering team — including coaching and driving technical initiatives. - 7+ years of backend engineering experience, with meaningful depth in distributed systems, system design, production reliability, and complex backend architectures. - Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent) and how it underpins reliable system operations, with strong focus on security, performance, and maintainability at scale. - Excellent English communication skills — written and verbal — comfortable operating across US-based teams and occasionally engaging directly with external technical stakeholders. - Hands-on experience with complex integration environments — third-party APIs, data pipelines, or enterprise client onboarding and implementation. - Strong AI fluency — actively uses AI tools to accelerate personal and team workflows. - Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Nice to have Qualifications - Hands-on experience with Node.js or Scala. - Experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployment environments. - Familiarity with healthcare data integrations. - Experience working in B2B environments Hello Heart has a positive, diverse, and supportive culture - we look for people who are collaborative, creative, and courageous.
