About Permira Permira is a global investment firm that backs successful businesses with growth ambitions. Founded in 1985, the firm advises funds across two core asset classes, private equity and credit, with total committed capital of approximately €89bn. The Permira private equity funds make both buyout and growth equity investments in four key sectors: Technology, Consumer, Healthcare and Services. The Permira credit funds support businesses with flexible financing solutions across Direct Lending, Strategic Opportunities and CLO Management. Established in 2007, the firm advises investment funds and products which have provided approximately €25 billion of debt capital to over 300 businesses. OVERVIEW As an Associate in the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team in Madrid, you will develop essential skills in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and reporting. You will own the analysis of operating expenses by employee, from the most granular transactional data up to the firm's P&L: reviewing actuals, challenging what the numbers show and turning that data into accurate forecasts and budgets. This is a hands-on finance role, for someone keen to learn, question how things are done and help transform the way we plan. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Actuals Analysis: Conduct financial analysis of OPEX actuals down to transaction and employee level to assess the firm's performance. Identify misallocations, missing accruals and anomalies, and challenge budget holders when needed. - Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the FP&A team in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, built bottom-up from transactional and headcount data. Analyse variances between actual and projected results and provide insights to support decision-making. - 10-Year Plan: Support the 10YrP process with a 360° view of the plan, linking OPEX assumptions to the wider plan and explaining what moves between versions. - Reporting and Presentation: Prepare financial reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, including senior management. Consolidate financial data and present key findings in a clear and concise manner. - Data Management and Transformation: Ensure data integrity across systems and platforms. Streamline and automate data collection, models and reporting, using AI tools day to day to work more efficiently. - Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Accounting, Fund Operations and Human Resources, to gather relevant financial information and agree assumptions. Take ownership of assigned tasks and deliver high-quality results within specified timelines. SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics or Engineering. - 1–2 years of experience in FP&A, controlling, audit or a data related function. - Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret large, granular financial datasets. - Advanced in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with experience in financial modelling. Power Query, Python, SQL or AI tools such as Claude are a plus. - Knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement analysis. - Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills. - Curiosity and drive to learn, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and an interest in applying AI and automation. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
