Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators. At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there. A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone. As a Software Engineer in our Creator Services Communication Pod, you will build the next generation communications plane to power the millions of experiences on the Roblox Platform. To give some examples of what we do, we run the mission-critical Cross-server Messaging Service, which is crucial for Roblox game developers to implement leaderboards, cross-server announcements, live operations and more. We own the developer APIs for HTTP calls to external systems and player teleports within and between game servers. We are also launching Compute Functions, which provide developers with a new surface to execute game logic for more robust features such as custom matchmaking, limited inventory drops, or any background task processing. To tie features like these together, we are building a general Game Server Management product to unify developers' observability and control of their servers. At its core, this team is focused on solving complex back end distributed systems and networking problems at scale. However, our scope extends to full stack projects spanning all the way from the infrastructure layer, through engine development, data pipelines, microservices, telemetry, game servers, web development, UI, and UX design. This team collaborates on multiple cross-company efforts and our projects are of extremely high importance to Roblox. If you enjoy working on modern distributed systems, products for developers, C# and C++ software, and networking challenges alongside highly-experienced and passionate engineers, you will be right at home on our growing Creator Services team. You Have - 2+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong ownership working in complex technical systems. - Knowledge: You are comfortable working with systems level programming languages (C++, C#, Objective C, Rust, or similar programming language). - Curiosity: You are eager to work across a wide range of systems and understand the Roblox ecosystem end to end - Long-term Mindset: You are considerate of how your work impacts the team/users over time, not just getting the green checkmark on a deliverable You Will - You will develop new products and features that help creators make complex experiences including live game operations at many-million-player scale. - You will support core systems at massive scale including how players move between game servers, how game servers communicate with each other, and how experiences interact with on and off platform services. - You will work across the technology stack such as the C++ game engine, Kafka streams, Flink jobs, Elasticsearch/Redis/Clickhouse databases, C# backend services, and React UIs. - You will take ownership of projects throughout their full lifecycles.
