At Merchants Fleet, we believe great outcomes happen when talented people come together with a shared commitment to service, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Our Heart & Hustle culture is built on collaboration, adaptability, integrity, and a passion for solving complex challenges. We're looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer who thrives at the intersection of technology and business, bringing curiosity, analytical thinking, and technical expertise to help power data-driven decision making across the organization.
If you're excited about building scalable data solutions, partnering with business leaders, and creating trusted data products that drive meaningful business outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you'll serve as a critical technical bridge between our Enterprise IT/Data Architecture and Treasury teams. In this role, you'll design, build, and optimize data infrastructure, pipelines, and reporting environments that support financial operations, audit processes, and securitization modeling.
You'll work closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure complex financial data is accurate, secure, scalable, and readily available for reporting and analysis. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys solving challenging data problems while directly impacting key financial and strategic initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Partner with Finance and Treasury teams to understand business needs and translate them into scalable data and reporting solutions.
- Identify, explore, and integrate data from multiple systems to support financial reporting, planning, and analytics.
- Design and develop scalable data models that support business consumption and decision-making.
- Collaborate with fellow engineers to acquire, transform, and integrate source data across platforms.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of enterprise data assets and reporting layers.
- Document business rules, data definitions, metrics, and logic to promote transparency and shared understanding.
- Support internal and external audits through clean reporting datasets and traceable data lineage.
- Build automated validation, monitoring, and error-handling processes to proactively identify and address data quality issues.
- Serve as a trusted data partner for finance stakeholders, helping bridge the gap between business requirements and technical solutions.
What Makes You Successful
- At Merchants, successful team members bring both technical expertise and a commitment to our values.
- You are naturally curious and enjoy uncovering relationships within complex datasets.
- You translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for business stakeholders.
- You take ownership of data quality, accuracy, and reliability.
- You thrive in collaborative environments and build strong partnerships across teams.
- You seek continuous improvement and aren't afraid to challenge existing processes.
- You balance strategic thinking with strong execution and attention to detail.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or in a similar role, preferably supporting financial data and reporting environments.
- Advanced SQL expertise, including experience writing, debugging, and optimizing complex queries, stored procedures, common table expressions (CTEs), and window functions.
- Experience designing data models and semantic layers for business users.
- Strong understanding of data architecture, transformation, and integration principles.
- Ability to clearly communicate implementation approaches, dependencies, and technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of financial concepts such as forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to partner directly with finance leaders and business stakeholders.
- Initiative, curiosity, and a passion for solving complex business and data challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Snowflake strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Engineering, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
- Additional business education, such as Finance coursework, MBA, or related experience preferred.
- Experience supporting financial reporting, treasury operations, audit processes, or securitization data environments is highly desirable.
