Location: Kfar Saba, IL (hybrid) ERGO NEXT's mission is to help entrepreneurs thrive. We’re doing that by building the only technology-led, full-stack provider of small business insurance in the industry, taking on the entire value chain and transforming the customer experience. Simply put, wherever you find small businesses, you’ll find ERGO NEXT. Since 2016, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of small business customers across the United States get fast, customized and affordable coverage. We’re backed by industry leaders in insurance and tech, and we still have room to grow — that’s where you come in. Help us build a development lifecycle where AI agents work alongside every engineer. Our Developer Experience (DevEx) team builds the tools, platforms and automation that make ERGO NEXT engineers more productive. We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer who is a developer first: you’ve built and shipped production software, you know what slows engineers down because you’ve felt it yourself, and you’re comfortable working with CI/CD, cloud and Kubernetes. You’ll take a key part in building our Agentic (AI-based) Software Development Life Cycle, where AI agents assist in designing, coding, testing and deploying our services. If you want your code to change how an entire engineering organization works, we’d like to hear from you. What You’ll Do: - Build the tools, platforms and automation that make our engineers more productive, treating our platform as a product - Take a key part in building our Agentic SDLC, applying AI agents to every step from design and coding to testing and deployment - Work across the full spectrum of cloud and applicative infrastructure, including CI/CD, Kubernetes, Terraform and AWS - Work directly with developers to understand the challenges our platform needs to solve - Initiate, plan and lead projects that improve developers’ day-to-day work and help them bring value to the business - Track adoption and impact of what you build, and iterate based on developer feedback What We Need: - 5+ years of hands-on software development in a cloud-oriented organization, building and owning production services or tools end to end (design, code, tests, review, maintenance). B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent - Proven record of initiating, designing, implementing and leading meaningful projects - Strong proficiency in at least one general-purpose language: Python, TypeScript, Java, Kotlin or Go - Hands-on experience with at least two of the following: CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins preferred), Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), Kubernetes and containers, AWS or GCP - Hands-on use of AI development tools beyond autocomplete: working with coding agents (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor), connecting them to MCP servers, and building custom instructions and workflows into daily development - Product mindset and a people person: cares about the developers using their work, is accessible and easy to work with, and thinks in terms of adoption and impact - A proficient problem solver who quickly adapts to new technologies Unstoppable Qualities: - Experience building AI-driven development systems, the kind of work you’ll do here: automated code review, an AI software factory, ephemeral AI development environments, agentic workflow orchestration, and AI-run engineering processes such as automated upgrades - Experience improving development processes and developer experience, including Internal Developer Portals and self-serve tools (e.g. Backstage) - Experience building on LLM APIs (agents, MCP, tool and prompt design) - Experience building internal tools, libraries, CLIs or automation used by other developers - Familiarity with observability tools: monitoring, logging, tracing - Knowledge of build tools (Maven, Gradle, npm, nx), software testing methodologies and tools, and Bash scripting Note on Fraudulent Recruiting We have become aware that there may be fraudulent recruiting attempts being made by people posing as representatives of ERGO NEXT Insurance. These scams may involve fake job postings, unsolicited emails, or messages claiming to be from our recruiters or hiring managers. You can find additional information about this type of scam and report any fraudulent employment offers via the Federal Trade Commission's website (https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/job-scams), or you can contact your local law enforcement agency. Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that some underrepresented people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At ERGO NEXT, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles. One of our core values is 'Play as a Team'; this means making sure everyone has an equal chance to participate and make a difference.
