About the role

Mechanical EngineeringRobotics
About Vitestro Founded in 2017 in Utrecht, Vitestro is pioneering the future of blood collection with the Aletta® Autonomous Robotic Phlebotomy Device™ (ARPD™). This groundbreaking medical device combines advanced multi-modal imaging (near-infrared, ultrasound, and Doppler ultrasound) with robotics and AI to perform the entire diagnostic blood draw procedure autonomously. By addressing critical healthcare staffing shortages and improving patient experience, Vitestro is transforming one of the most common and essential medical procedures. With more than 130 team members and growing rapidly, we are scaling our impact. As we placed our first devices with customers, we are now expanding our team to ensure successful implementation and long-term reliability. At Vitestro, we are committed to continuous innovation and improvement. Your role “As our Mechanical Engineer in the Consumable Handling team, you design the mechanical subsystems behind some of Aletta’s key functions: the structural frame and housing that carries every other system, the safe disposal of used needles and filled blood tubes, the presentation of bandages, and the delivery of contact liquid and vacuum. It is a broad, integration-heavy role spanning mechanical structure, fluidics and actuation. You translate sub-system requirements into robust designs, integrate them into the wider device, and keep improving them based on production and field data. You build manufacturability, reliability and serviceability into the design from the start, so they are not added afterwards. You work closely with fellow mechanical, electrical, software, production and service colleagues.” First months at Vitestro “In your first months, you start the concept design for the mobility of our device in the hospital, so Aletta becomes easier to move and position wherever it is needed. At the same time, you update and verify our existing sub-system designs using what we learned from the first production runs, service activities and customer feedback. You turn these real-world findings into concrete design improvements and make sure they are verified and documented. You also start concept work on new UIS concepts, which shapes the next generation of our consumable handling.” This is what success looks like “After 12 months, you are recognized within the engineering team for your strong experience in Design for X (DfX), and you have helped incorporate DfX principles into the mechanical engineering community at Vitestro. Your designs move smoothly into production, hold up reliably in the field, and are easy to service. Colleagues come to you for your depth of knowledge, and you help raise the bar for how we design across the team. You enjoy finishing what you start. You like to see a design all the way through, and you take the details seriously. You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment and bring a pragmatic, hands-on mentality to every challenge.”
