Position Summary The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent and Project Management team in the day-to-day supervision, coordination, and execution of commercial construction projects. This role assists in managing field operations, subcontractor activities, quality control, safety compliance, project scheduling, and overall jobsite organization. The Assistant Superintendent serves as a key liaison between the field and office teams, helping ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents and company standards. This position is ideal for an individual seeking to develop a career in construction operations and project leadership through hands-on experience managing complex commercial construction projects. Key Responsibilities - Assist the Superintendent in managing daily field operations and coordinating construction activities on assigned projects. - Monitor and support project schedules to ensure work is progressing according to established milestones and project deadlines. - Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and field personnel to maintain workflow efficiency and productivity. - Assist with planning and sequencing work activities to minimize conflicts, delays, and disruptions. - Conduct regular jobsite walks to monitor construction progress, identify potential issues, and verify compliance with project requirements. - Support implementation and enforcement of project-specific safety plans, company policies, and OSHA regulations. - Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and professional jobsite environment. - Participate in quality control inspections and verify that work is being performed in accordance with plans, specifications, building codes, and company standards. - Track deliveries, monitor material inventories, and coordinate the storage and protection of materials and equipment. - Assist in coordinating inspections with local authorities, consultants, and third-party inspectors. - Maintain and update daily reports including manpower counts, weather conditions, deliveries, visitors, work completed, and notable project events. - Document field conditions through written reports and photographs. - Review construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings to develop a thorough understanding of project requirements. - Assist with identifying and resolving field conflicts, constructability issues, and unforeseen project conditions. Coordinate punch list activities and support project closeout efforts, including turnover documentation and warranty items. - Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, design consultants, subcontractors, and internal team members. - Participate in project meetings and assist with tracking action items and field-related follow-up tasks. - Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement. - Perform additional duties and special assignments as required to support project success. Qualifications - 2+ years of commercial construction or field experience preferred. - Ability to read construction plans and specifications. - Understanding of commercial construction methods, scheduling, sequencing, and jobsite operations. - Working knowledge of building plans, specifications, shop drawings, and construction documents. - Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and construction safety best practices. - Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. - Effective verbal and written communication skills. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software such as Procore. - Ability to work collaboratively with project teams while taking initiative and ownership of assigned responsibilities.
