About the role
JavaReactAngular.NETKafkaCI/CDObservabilityUX Design
Make a difference in the financial life of millions of people: At Erste Digital you are co-creating the digital future, in which better financial health is possible. #believeinyourself
We are part of Erste Group – the largest banking group in Central and Eastern Europe with more than 2,500 branches and over 45,000 employees. Our more than 2,000 IT experts and enthusiasts are the bank's Digital Muscle.
Within our Daily Banking Experience department, you contribute to digital products that customers rely on for their everyday banking. Depending on the product and team, we work with technologies such as Java, .NET, React/LUNA, Angular, Camunda, Kafka and cloud technologies, while increasingly using AI and agentic engineering as part of everyday product development.
What to do:
As a Digital Product Engineer, you take technical ownership of digital banking products throughout their lifecycle – from understanding a need to running the solution in production. You combine software engineering (around 3 years of Java/React experience), technical analysis and product-level coordination. Instead of working within traditional role boundaries, you connect business needs with technology, turn requirements into solutions, contribute hands-on to their implementation and help ensure that the product works reliably in production. You work closely with Product Owners, Business, UX, Architecture and Engineering and become a key technical contact for your product.
Understand & Shape
- Understand customer and business needs and translate them into clear technical requirements and solutions.
- Analyze processes, APIs, data flows, system interactions and dependencies.
- Turn requirements into features, stories and technical specifications that teams can implement.
- Challenge requirements and solution approaches to find simple, sustainable and technically sound solutions.
Build & Engineer
- Design and develop software hands-on across frontend, backend or full-stack, depending on your expertise and the needs of the product.
- Take responsibility for engineering quality through automated testing, CI/CD, observability and secure coding.
- Contribute to architectural evolution, modernization and the reduction of technical debt.
- Leverage AI-assisted and agentic engineering across analysis, specification, development and testing.
Connect & Coordinate
- Be a technical anchor for your product and connect Business, Product and Engineering.
- Coordinate technical dependencies and align with other products, teams and stakeholders.
- Drive technical topics, decisions and follow-ups instead of simply handing them over.
- Support product and delivery planning with technical expertise.
- Coordinate technical aspects of releases and product changes and maintain transparency around relevant product knowledge.
Run & Improve
- Take ownership beyond go-live and contribute to the stable and reliable operation of your product.
- Support incident resolution and root-cause analysis and turn learnings into sustainable improvements.
- Continuously improve security, resilience, performance and maintainability.
- Identify opportunities to simplify the product, automate work and improve engineering efficiency.
What makes this role different
A Digital Product Engineer does not stop where another role traditionally starts. You can understand a requirement, analyze its technical implications, shape a solution, implement it and help run it in production. We do not expect everyone to be equally strong in every discipline from day one. You might come from Software Engineering or Technical Analysis and bring deep expertise in one area. What matters is the ambition to broaden your capabilities and develop into a T-shaped Digital Product Engineer with end-to-end product ownership.
