About the role

UI DesignUX DesignAccessibilityCAD
At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive. For us, maps aren't just background graphics—they’re the core of the driver’s experience. While generic navigation apps focus on the everyday commute, Lyft Mapping is custom-built for the high-stakes, split-second realities of the rideshare experience. Drivers choose Lyft Maps because we solve the unique, complex challenges of living on the road: delivering glanceable turn guidance at speed, navigating tricky pick-up & drop-off dynamics, and providing real-time, AI-powered route assistance when every second counts. We build technology that empowers our drivers, transforms uncertainty into seamless flow, and sets the standard for real-time mobile navigation. We obsess over questions like: did your pickup spot feel safe and convenient? Did your driver feel confident following the route and arriving on the correct side of the road? Did you get stuck in unexpected traffic or road closures? You will tackle all of these challenges and more, with end to end ownership over the full ride experience, including driver navigation and rider pickup experiences. We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to advocate and maintain a user-obsessed culture within Lyft, and be happy and comfortable in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. You'll partner with designers, researchers, marketers, and product managers to define and create top-notch experiences with safety as a core tenet for success. You’re experienced with every step of product development, from brainstorming broad ideas to ensure design quality through launch. Using your full range of interaction, visual, and product thinking skills, you will lead and own core Mapping experiences across our product teams. Responsibilities: - Own core experiences end to end. Lead design for Mapping's most important user-facing surfaces, from problem definition through launch and iteration. Your primary areas, in order of focus: - Core Navigation – turn-by-turn guidance, map zoom and motion details, and how drivers orient themselves with the road - Real-time Feedback and Voice AI – how drivers report what's happening on the road, including emerging voice and AI-assisted experiences - Map styling and 3D views – the visual language of the map itself, including 3D and map assets - Map Tooling – internal tools that help Lyft's mapping and operations teams keep the map accurate - Drive cross-organizational alignment. Proactively reach across organizational boundaries to partner with cross-functional leaders, synthesize competing feedback, and build consensus around complex design decisions. - Work at the systems level. Build reusable design-system components, tooling, and map assets that improve the platform as well as individual features, so every surface built on the map gets better. - Hold a high quality bar. Benchmark Lyft's map and navigation experiences against the leading map products, and use that bar to raise the quality of what we ship. - Support accurate implementation. Partner closely with engineering and content design through build, edge cases, and launch, so what ships matches what was designed. - Lead through ambiguity. Take complex, loosely defined problems, work with product and engineering leads to frame them, and drive alignment across teams with competing priorities. - Raise the work (and work-ers) around you. Give critique that improves others' work, communicate complex design decisions clearly to broad audiences, including leadership, and help shape how the team works. Experience: - 5+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of complex, shipped mobile experiences - Experience designing maps, navigation, or location-based products - Strong craft in interaction and visual design, and the ability to prototype at high fidelity to explore and communicate ideas - Strong advocate and experimental mindset with AI-native prototyping and tooling, whether code-based, AI-assisted, or both - Upholds Design+ quality: Confidently interprets and applies UX Standards (Accessibility, Safety, Reliability, Usability, and Lyft Product Language) to work - A proactive mindset driving cross-team collaboration, self-directed in ambiguity, and receptive to giving and receiving feedback across all levels - A track record of systems-level work: design-system components, reusable patterns, tooling, or assets adopted beyond a single feature - Close, effective partnership with product, engineering, data science and content design, including owning the details through implementation - A rigorous quality bar, informed by deep familiarity with the best and most innovative map and navigation products - Clear communication of complex, ambiguous work to broad groups and senior stakeholders Nice to have - Motion design and 3D experience, especially for maps, animated components, and real-time interfaces - Voice or conversational UI design experience - Experience with driver, logistics, in-vehicle, or other high-stakes, glanceable interfaces - Experience designing internal tools for operations or data teams Benefits: - Extended health and dental coverage options, along with life insurance and disability benefits - Mental health benefits - Family building benefits - Child care and pet benefits - Access to a Lyft funded Health Care Savings Account - RRSP plan to help save for your future - In addition to provincial observed holidays, salaried team members are covered under Lyft's flexible paid time off policy. The policy allows team members to take off as much time as they need (with manager approval). Hourly team members get 15 days paid time off, with an additional day for each year of service - Lyft is proud to support new parents with 18 weeks of paid time off, designed as a top-up plan to complement provincial programs.
