Working at Trail Appliances means joining an entrepreneurial-minded, driven team dedicated to delivering an exceptional customer experience. Trail Appliances is the leading independent appliance retailer in Western Canada. We’re a fast-growing company with over 500 employees in British Columbia, spread out over 10 showrooms, 3 Outlet Centres, 3 distribution centres, and 4 offices in BC's major markets. Join our team of trailblazers!
Our core values:
Integrity – We do what’s right, even when no one is looking.
Improvement – We do it well. Then we do it better.
Caring – We put ourselves in others’ shoes.
Authenticity – We like people, not pretense.
Determination – We kick down walls.
At Trail Appliances, we're not just selling appliances. We're helping customers create homes they love, and we're constantly looking for better ways to serve them. As a family-owned Canadian company, we believe great ideas can come from anywhere, and we're committed to giving our teams the tools, technology, and support they need to do their best work.
We're looking for a Product Owner - Data & Business Intelligence to help shape how data drives decisions across our business. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the direction of enterprise reporting, analytics, KPIs, dashboards, and data products while working closely with teams across Sales, Operations, Customer Experience, Finance, Supply Chain, HR, and IT.
If you're passionate about turning business questions into actionable insights, enjoy bringing clarity to complex challenges, and believe that good data should drive better decisions, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do
As our Product Owner - Data & Business Intelligence, you'll own the roadmap, backlog, adoption, and ongoing evolution of our data and analytics capabilities. You'll partner with stakeholders across the organization to ensure we are investing in the right reporting, metrics, and data products to support business outcomes.
You will:
Own and maintain the roadmap and backlog for enterprise data products, dashboards, operational reporting, semantic models, self-service analytics, and related data quality initiatives.
Partner with business leaders and frontline teams to understand the decisions, measures, risks, and operational questions that data products must support.
Evaluate and prioritize requests based on business value, KPI impact, data readiness, effort, urgency, dependencies, regulatory requirements, and audience reach.
Translate business needs into user stories, metric definitions, acceptance criteria, security requirements, data expectations, and measurable outcomes.
Work closely with BI architects, data engineers, analysts, application owners, and subject-matter experts to deliver trusted and scalable analytics solutions.
Facilitate discovery workshops, KPI-definition sessions, backlog refinement, reporting rationalization, user acceptance testing, demonstrations, and release activities.
Challenge duplicate reports, conflicting metrics, spreadsheet-driven processes, and low-value requests in favour of governed, reusable, and scalable reporting solutions.
Lead business validation, testing, adoption, training, documentation, and post-launch measurement activities.
Monitor data quality, report usage, adoption, performance, business impact, and ongoing value realization.
Help establish and maintain practical governance practices that improve trust, consistency, and confidence in our data.
What You Bring
We're looking for someone who combines strong product thinking, business analysis expertise, and a passion for helping people make better decisions with data.
Required Experience
Five or more years of experience in product ownership, business intelligence, analytics, data product management, business analysis, reporting, process improvement, digital transformation, or related roles.
Experience Power BI, building and managing product roadmaps and prioritizing competing business and reporting demands.
Strong business analysis skills, including discovery, process mapping, requirements gathering, user stories, KPI design, acceptance criteria, and benefit measurement.
Working knowledge of modern BI and data concepts, including semantic models, dimensional modelling, data quality, lineage, governance, security, refresh cycles, and self-service analytics.
Experience defining business metrics and facilitating alignment on calculations, ownership, source systems, business rules, and intended use.
Experience partnering with technical teams to validate source data, reconcile reporting outputs, investigate defects, and ensure analytics are fit for decision-making.
Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, and consulting skills, including the ability to challenge assumptions and guide conversations toward business outcomes.
Experience leading testing, user acceptance, release readiness, training, documentation, and adoption activities.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical, operational, and executive audiences.
Nice to Have
Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services, SQL, DAX, Power Query, Dataverse, or comparable analytics platforms.
Experience working with enterprise systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, ERP, CRM, finance, warehouse, sales, commerce, or supply chain platforms.
Familiarity with star schemas, certified semantic models, data catalogues, row-level security, governance frameworks, and reporting lifecycle management.
Experience rationalizing legacy reports and spreadsheets, developing KPI dictionaries, supporting self-service analytics, or improving data literacy.
Microsoft certifications in Data & AI, Power BI, Fabric, Azure, Business Applications, or related technologies.
Why Join Trail?
At Trail Appliances, you'll have the opportunity to influence how a growing Canadian organization leverages data to improve decision-making, operational performance, customer experience, and business outcomes.

Most importantly, you'll work with people who genuinely care about one another, our customers, and the communities we serve.
