Sheffield or London | 2 days per week in the office, 3 days working remotely 8-week placement (November - January with break for Christmas) ABOUT THE ROLE On a day-to-day basis, you will: - Work on well-scoped analysis and data tasks, with guidance and peer review from the team. - Use SQL to explore data, answer questions and build simple, reusable datasets. - Help create or improve dashboards that allow teams to monitor key metrics and performance. - Check data quality, investigate unexpected results and clearly document your assumptions. - Speak with stakeholders to understand their questions and help translate them into structured analysis. - Use appropriate charts and written summaries to communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences. - Contribute to an individual or team project that demonstrates what you have learned and creates value for the business. - Take part in team ceremonies, knowledge-sharing sessions and regular one-to-one coaching. - Use AI tools thoughtfully to support tasks such as learning, exploring approaches, drafting code or documentation, while checking outputs and protecting confidential data. ABOUT YOU We would like you to be: - Interested in data analysis and in using data to understand and solve real business problems. - Comfortable working with numbers and able to break a question into logical steps. - Familiar with SQL, spreadsheets, Python or another analytical tool through study, work experience or personal projects. - Able to explain your thinking and communicate clearly with people who may not have a technical background. - Curious about how businesses work, willing to ask questions and keen to investigate why something has happened. - Careful with detail, particularly when checking data and deciding whether a result can be trusted. - Open to feedback, collaboration and learning new tools and ways of working. - Familiar with AI tools and able to use them responsibly to support your work, rather than accepting their output without question. It would also be useful if you have: - Completed a university, college, apprenticeship, bootcamp or self-directed project involving data. - Created a dashboard, report or analysis and can describe the question, tools, approach and outcome. - Used an AI tool in a personal, academic or external project and can explain what it helped you do, how you checked its output and what you learned. - Some familiarity with databases, data visualisation, statistics or cloud-based data tools. You do not need to meet every point or have experience with our exact technology stack. We are more interested in your potential, curiosity and ability to learn than in a long list of tools. ABOUT THE DATA FUNCTION The Data function supports teams across the whole business, including Finance, Marketing, Sales, Referencing, Insurance, Product and Account Management. We turn business questions into trusted analysis, dashboards and data products that help teams understand performance, improve processes and decide what to do next. Our modern data stack includes BigQuery, dbt, Python, Airflow and Metabase, running in Google Cloud Platform. You are not expected to know all of these before joining. The placement is designed to give you structured, hands-on experience, supported by analysts and engineers who will help you learn how we work.   HOW DO WE WORK? The Data team works collaboratively with people across Goodlord. We start by understanding the business problem, clarify what success looks like, explore and validate the relevant data, and then communicate our findings in a useful way. Depending on the problem, this might mean an analysis, a dashboard, a data model or an improvement to an existing process. You will work on well-scoped tasks and a defined internship project, with regular check-ins, feedback and opportunities to pair with experienced members of the team. You will also take part in team meetings and share what you have learned.   WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE - In your first two weeks, you understand the role of the Data function, can navigate our core tools with support and have started contributing to a well-scoped task. - By the middle of the placement, you can explore and validate data, explain your approach and incorporate feedback from the team and stakeholders. - By the end of the placement, you have delivered and presented a useful piece of analysis, dashboard or data improvement, clearly communicating what you found, the limitations and the recommended next steps. WHAT TO TELL US IN YOUR APPLICATION We would love to hear about a data, coding, research or AI-assisted project you have worked on. This can come from your studies, employment, volunteering or something you built independently. Tell us: - What problem or question you were trying to address. - Which tools or technologies you used and why. - How you checked the quality or accuracy of your work. - What the outcome was and what you would improve next time. - If you used AI, how you used it, how you validated its output and where your own judgement was important. WHAT HAVE OUR INTERNS SAID? “I genuinely did quite enjoy the internship and I’ve been able to learn so much these two months. Before I started the internship, I was expecting it to be much more challenging and stressful, but it has been a very enjoyable experience with many challenges and opportunities to learn.” “I got all the support required. I was asking other people on the team for help a lot and always got help from them. Props to everyone in the squad.” ABOUT US At Goodlord, our brand is built on one simple belief: renting should be effortless.
