LTS is seeking an experienced Application Packaging Engineer to support enterprise Windows application packaging and deployment for a large federal environment within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)’s enterprise IT. This position will collaborate with stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements, develop reliable packaging solutions, and ensure seamless integration within the VA's enterprise IT environment. This role owns the full lifecycle of application packaging — from gathering requirements through building, testing, and deploying production-ready packages at scale. This is a hands-on technical role for someone who has lived inside Windows Installer technology and enjoys solving the kind of deep, detail-oriented problems that come with packaging software for thousands of endpoints reliably and repeatably.
What You'll Do:
- Build silent installation packages in MSI, MST, and MSIX formats and validate them through initial installation testing on Windows 11
- Engage directly with internal customers to gather packaging requirements and translate them into technical documentation and solutions that scale to a large enterprise environment
- Perform complete end-to-end packaging activities — source validation, build, testing, deployment, and production support
- Troubleshoot packaging and deployment issues using ProcMon, MSI verbose logging, and Windows Event Logs; identify root cause and implement corrective action quickly
- Query and modify Windows Registry as part of packaging and deployment workflows
- Participate in peer review of packages to ensure quality and consistency with project standards
- Ensure all prerequisites, dependencies, and organizational packaging/deployment standards are accounted for in every solution delivered
What We're Looking For:
- 4–6+ years of hands-on application packaging experience, including extensive use of Flexera AdminStudio
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Registry, and ability to query or modify settings
- Experience using Flexera AdminStudio and Install Shield
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting packaging issues using ProcMon, MSI logging, and Windows Event Logs
- Deep familiarity with Windows Installer internals (MSI tables, custom actions, transforms, component rules, repair behavior, reboot handling and logging)
- Knowledge of PowerShell and/or CMD scripting is essential
- U.S. Citizen and the ability to achieve Public Trust Clearance at the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Understanding of Windows Installer technology (custom actions, transforms, ICE validation, component rules, repair behavior, reboot handling, and logging)
- Experience testing, validating, and certifying Windows platform and application compatibility, including interoperability with technologies such as Citrix
- Experience performing application performance analysis and troubleshooting using Microsoft and commercial toolsets to evaluate CPU, memory, disk I/O, network latency, and bandwidth utilization
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop effective technical solutions
- Demonstrated experience in a remote work environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to collaborate and work effectively with customers, stakeholders and cross-functional teams in both independent and team-based environments
- Strong attention to detail and solid documentation skills
Nice to Have:
- 3-5 years of IT system administration experience
- Experience with PSADT (PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit)
- Experience with Intune/Entra for application and device management
- Prior experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or another federal organization
- Demonstrated experience working in Scrum/Agile delivery environments
What’s in it for you?
- The opportunity to support high visibility federal missions in IT and healthcare
- A culture that values innovation, growth, collaboration, and quality
- Access to cutting-edge tools and technologies
- Comprehensive benefits for you and your family
- A career path that rewards ambition and performance
If you’re ready to push boundaries, sharpen your skills, and join a team that is passionate about building what’s next, we’d love to meet you. Apply today and let’s build a future together!
