About the role

RustMongoDBExcelFigmaAuditingLeadership
Profound is the fastest-growing AI marketing platform, used by 15% of the Fortune 500 including Comcast, Estée Lauder, and Walmart, and innovators like Ramp, MongoDB, and Figma. It is where marketing teams do the work: research, briefs, content, campaigns, reporting, all in one place, alongside agents that carry the load with them. Built on 2B+ real user prompts and growing, Profound’s data shows you what people ask AI and what the models say back. Profound's AI Marketer joins that data with deep context about our customers to find the opportunities worth acting on, and then puts agents to work: automating reporting, drafting content, auditing pages for readability, running competitive research. It measures what works and gets better every day. We are hiring an Engineering Manager in New York City to lead the team building triggers that initiate agent work, reliable automation and workflow execution, and collaborative tools for creating, organizing, and coordinating work. You will report to the Head of Engineering and manage a team of 8 to 12 engineers. Your primary responsibilities are people management, coaching, hiring, performance, and delivery. The technical lead owns technical direction. Strong production Rust proficiency is required so you can coach engineers effectively, understand technical tradeoffs, and be an informed partner to the TL. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Hire and develop a strong team of engineers. Set clear expectations, give direct feedback, and build a culture of ownership, trust, and accountability - Own team planning and delivery with product and the technical lead. Make priorities, capacity, and dependencies explicit, and turn broad goals into achievable milestones - Coach engineers through one-on-ones, career development, and performance conversations. Understand what each person needs to grow and help them do their best work - Partner closely with the technical lead, who owns architecture and technical direction. Ensure the team has the context, capacity, and support to execute, and use your Rust background to ask informed questions and understand risks - Identify delivery risks early, remove organizational blockers, and coordinate cross-team dependencies. Communicate progress and changes clearly rather than letting surprises accumulate - Build sustainable team practices around on-call, incidents, and support. Balance operational work with planned delivery, protect team health, and make sure improvement work has an owner and time to get done - Coordinate with product and partner engineering teams, including the team building the agent harness, to align priorities and handoffs across agent execution, automations, and collaborative tools WHO YOU ARE - 10+ years of experience - Strong production Rust proficiency. You have shipped and operated Rust systems and can use that experience to coach engineers, understand technical tradeoffs, and support the technical lead - Direct engineering management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and delivery accountability. You can point to how you helped engineers grow and teams become more effective - Experience building and operating complex backend or platform systems, with an understanding of the failure modes that emerge as usage and complexity grow - You earn the trust of senior engineers and technical leads through clear expectations, sound judgment, and follow-through. You delegate technical ownership while staying informed and supportive - You can balance team health, delivery commitments, and technical investment, making capacity and priority decisions explicit - You communicate clearly across engineering, product, and other partners, especially when requirements are ambiguous or priorities need to change NICE TO HAVE - Experience with workflow engines, durable execution, scheduling, or event-driven systems - Experience building collaborative documents, spreadsheets, file or artifact systems, project workspaces, or calendar products - Experience building products where people and agents work together - Experience growing an engineering team while maintaining technical quality and clear ownership LOCATION This is an in-person role based in our New York City office, designed for builders who thrive on speed, iteration, and meaningful impact. For this role, the expected base salary range is $250,000 to $320,000, depending on experience. Profound's total compensation package includes base salary, equity, and a full range of benefits and perks. Final compensation will depend on factors such as your skills, experience, qualifications, and location, and will be determined during the interview process.
