The Senior Software Build & Release Engineer for Voyager Lunar Systems owns the automation of software builds, versioning, deployment, and delivery for our lunar lander program.
The position reports to the Software & Controls Manager and is part of the Software & Controls Department based in Pittsburgh, PA. This role is onsite based in Pittsburgh, PA.
In this role, the essential functions are:
- Own release engineering end to end for flight and ground software, from pipeline architecture through final software package generation.
- Design and evolve the branching and release strategy. This includes a GitFlow-based model with release branches, automated semantic versioning, and promotion gates that define what qualifies as an alpha build, release candidate, or release.
- Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines that compile, test, version, publish, and deploy software. You'll triage and resolve infrastructure-related failures and regressions.
- Integrate automated and manual test campaigns into the release process so every build has a clear, auditable test record.
- Deploy and operate on-premises infrastructure for critical engineering services, including GitLab and GitLab Runners, Slurm HPC clusters, Jira, Confluence, Harbor, and MinIO.
- Own Linux-based spacecraft flat-sat platforms. You'll work with test engineers to build Python tooling and custom Docker containers for automated deployment and testing.
- Set engineering standards for build, test, and release practices across software teams.
If your experience aligns with our basic qualifications and you are inspired by our mission, we’d like to connect. If you don’t see the right role right now, Join Our Talent Community and stay connected as we continue to build what’s next.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of DevOps, build, or release engineering experience supporting robotics, spacecraft, embedded, or other mission-critical systems.

- Experience with Bazel, particularly for multi-language (C++/Python) builds, remote caching, or migrating existing projects from Make/CMake.
- Experience with Docker and with Make/CMake build systems.
- A track record of designing or significantly shaping branching and release strategies, such as GitFlow, release branches, semantic versioning, and promotion gates.
- Solid Linux administration experience, including deploying and maintaining self-hosted engineering services.
- Comfort as the primary or sole owner of infrastructure, responsible for both architecture and hands-on implementation.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR.
