About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated Database Engineer with a strong foundation in PostgreSQL to take full ownership of our database infrastructure. In this role, you will lead the design, optimization, scaling, and reliability of our core relational databases while actively exploring emerging frameworks. This position is ideal for a proactive engineer who bridges the gap between database architecture and application logic, thrives on solving performance bottlenecks, builds resilient cloud architectures, and is excited to leverage AI and modern technologies to drive our data strategy forward. Key Responsibilities - Infrastructure Reliability & HA: Design, implement, and manage High Availability (HA) architectures. Configure and maintain streaming & logical replication, clustering, and automated failover mechanisms. - Disaster Recovery (DR): Develop, execute, and test robust disaster recovery plans. Ensure data durability through automated backup strategies and rapid point-in-time recovery (PITR) procedures. - Database Design & Architecture: Architect, model, and deploy scalable database schemas that align with complex application requirements and business logic. - Cloud & Infrastructure Management: Deploy and manage PostgreSQL databases within modern cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), optimizing for cost, performance, and security. - Query Optimization & Performance Tuning: Write, analyze, and optimize complex SQL queries. Utilize advanced indexing, partitioning, and execution plan analysis to ensure low latency. - End-to-End Ownership: Take full accountability for database health, migrations, and data integrity from the development phase through production deployment. - AI Integration & Workflow Optimization: Leverage AI tools to streamline development workflows, and collaborate on integrating database systems with AI/ML pipelines (e.g., utilizing vector data extensions like pgvector). - Technology Exploration: Continuously evaluate and pilot new database engines, NoSQL solutions, and modern tech stacks to keep our infrastructure efficient and future-proof. - Experience: 3 to 10 years of proven, hands-on professional experience working extensively with PostgreSQL in production environments. - Resiliency Expertise: Deep knowledge of database replication strategies, High Availability (HA) setups (e.g., Patroni, PgBouncer), and Disaster Recovery planning. - Cloud Infrastructure: Solid hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and managed database services (e.g., Amazon RDS, Aurora, Google Cloud SQL). - Core Database Expertise: Deep understanding of relational database design principles, ACID compliance, normalization, and advanced SQL querying. - Programming Exposure: Basic proficiency or working knowledge of at least one general-purpose programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java, Bash) for automation and backend integration. - Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks, manage multiple priorities, and deliver robust solutions with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications - NoSQL Exposure: Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, DynamoDB) and a solid understanding of when to leverage NoSQL versus relational data models. - AI Acumen: Strong familiarity with artificial intelligence concepts, either through integrating AI-driven features into applications or utilizing AI assistants for coding and process efficiency. - Adaptability: A strong willingness and enthusiasm to step outside your comfort zone, learn new programming languages, and adopt cutting-edge technologies as project needs evolve.
