SENIOR EDITOR Location: Toronto, ON Work Model: Hybrid | Minimum 2 days in-office per week (Tuesday + Thursday) COMPANY OVERVIEW The Kitchen brings together a range of disciplines and capabilities. It’s a team of creatives, producers, data analysts and social experts working together to deliver remarkable ideas that live in a variety of mediums, from everything from social to TV. This team moves at the speed of culture. It is built to respond to trends and events as they happen, coming up with ideas that transcend social media to capture the spirit of the moment, earn media impressions, and get the country talking. Are you ready to join an award-ambitious team that's making waves in the advertising industry? Our incredible team has been recognized internationally by industry giants like Cannes, One Show and was named Campaign's Global ‘In-House Agency of The Year’, further solidifying our position as a leader in the industry. Join us and be a part of something truly special - a team that's dedicated to creating ground-breaking work and pushing limits. At The Kitchen, we're not just looking for individuals who want to be a part of the advertising industry - we're looking for trailblazers who are ready to lead the way to the next big thing! We want individuals who are passionate about producing award-winning work and have an innate drive to their craft and are eager to generate innovative ideas both within and outside of the brief. THE ROLE We’re looking for an experienced, well-rounded Senior Editor to join our Production team in Toronto and play an important role in our growing in-house post-production capability. Reporting directly to the Executive Producer, Production, you’ll work closely with a robust team of Producers across Toronto and Chicago, as well as our Creative, Account and broader agency teams and, from time to time, directly with our brand partners. Our work lives primarily within the food, beverage and food-adjacent space and spans everything from fast-turnaround social and digital content to broadcast commercials and larger integrated advertising campaigns. We’re looking for someone who understands the pace, craft and collaborative nature of agency production and is equally comfortable digging into an edit independently, working alongside a Creative team or leading a supervised session with internal and brand stakeholders. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Lead offline editorial across broadcast, digital, social, branded content and integrated advertising campaigns. - Edit work across a wide range of formats and durations, from short-form and social content through :06, :15, :30 and longer-form storytelling. - Partner closely with Producers, Creatives, Account teams and brand stakeholders throughout the post-production process, from initial assemblies through creative approval and delivery. Participate in pre-production and creative conversations when appropriate, helping teams anticipate editorial opportunities, coverage needs, post-production considerations and potential efficiencies before cameras roll. - Participate in and lead supervised edit sessions, confidently navigating feedback and contributing editorial solutions in real time. - Bring a strong editorial perspective to the work, helping teams find the strongest story, performance, pacing, structure and creative execution rather than simply executing a brief. - Create and implement motion graphics as part of day-to-day editorial, including supers, typography, transitions, end cards, graphic treatments and other motion elements required to bring an edit to completion. - Perform light colour correction and grading when appropriate, while collaborating with specialized external partners for more advanced colour and finishing requirements. - Manage multiple edits, versions, aspect ratios, formats and deliverables across projects of varying scale and complexity. - Prepare and adapt work across broadcast, social and digital specifications, including short-form cutdowns and platform-specific versioning. - Perform stock music searches and provide a creative POV to creatives/CDs on music direction - Collaborate with external post-production partners across advanced motion design, animation, VFX, colour, audio and finishing when projects require additional specialization. - Maintain highly organized project files, media, working assets and archives throughout the lifecycle of a project. - Perform editorial QC and prepare final files for review, approval and delivery, ensuring accuracy across picture, audio, graphics, supers, aspect ratios, versioning and technical specifications. - Work confidently within established post workflows while helping us continue to develop and strengthen our growing in-house editorial capability. - Work on-site from our Liberty Village office during designated in-office days, currently Tuesday and Thursday. - Work effectively across both in-person and remote editorial workflows, collaborating with teams and stakeholders across Toronto and Chicago. - Experience with collaborative review platforms such as Frame.io and remote post-production workflows. - Share knowledge, best practices and technical expertise with the broader team, contributing to the continued development of our editorial standards and capabilities. - Have experience with Extreme Reach submission or uploading for broadcast deliverables. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR - 7+ years of professional editorial experience within an advertising agency, in-house agency, production company or post-production environment, with agency and/or in-house experience strongly preferred. - A strong portfolio or reel demonstrating editorial craft, creative thinking and a high level of polish across finished work. - Demonstrated experience working on food, beverage and/or food-adjacent advertising and content. - Extensive experience with professional NLE systems and contemporary post-production workflows. - Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and comfort working within the broader Adobe Creative Suite. - Strong proficiency in After Effects, with the ability to independently design, build and implement motion graphics required for everyday advertising and content work. - Working knowledge of Photoshop and an understanding of how design assets move between creative and editorial workflows. - Experience with DaVinci Resolve or Baselight is an asset. - Comfort performing light colour correction and grading, with an understanding of when work should transition to a dedicated colourist or finishing partner. - Experience with advanced 2D or 3D animation is a significant plus, but not a requirement. - Strong understanding of media management, codecs, formats, versioning, conforming and preparing projects for downstream colour, VFX, audio and online finishing. - Experience working directly with Creative, Production and Account teams as well as clients or brand stakeholders. - Strong creative instincts and an ability to interpret feedback, contribute ideas and recommend editorial solutions. - Comfortable working independently while managing competing priorities, tight timelines and multiple stakeholders. - Highly organized, detail-oriented, collaborative and calm within a fast-moving production environment. - Demonstrated ability to take editorial ownership of a project from initial assembly through approval, proactively identifying creative and technical needs rather than waiting for direction at each stage. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE You become a trusted creative and production partner across the agency, someone Producers, Creatives and brand teams want in the room early and rely on when the work gets complicated. You bring both craft and practicality to post-production: strong editorial instincts, motion capabilities, excellent technical knowledge and an understanding of what it takes to move modern advertising work efficiently from footage through finished creative. You’re equally comfortable crafting the hero :30, finding the :06 cutdown hiding inside it, adapting the work across platforms and building the motion elements needed to make each execution feel considered rather than simply resized. Just as importantly, you’ll play an active role in shaping our growing in-house post-production capability. You’ll bring your experience and perspective to how we structure workflows, technology and editorial standards, external partnerships and ways of working, helping us build a post-production model that can scale across our North American team.
