About the role
DatabricksSparkETLUnityPythonSQLAzure
We are looking for a Senior Databricks Data Engineer to join our Data Platform & Data Engineering Team. You work on multiple projects building data platforms on Databricks for our clients. On those projects you are the Databricks reference: you define the architecture of the data platform and solutions, make decisions on how things are built and coach colleagues.
You are a Databricks Champion, or you have the ambition to become one. You will be surrounded by an exceptional peer groupwith deep experience in Analytics Engineering within the Microsoft & Databricks tech stack, so you will always have colleagues to spar with on the (technical) decisions you make.
Your responsibilities
As a Senior Databricks Data Engineer, you work hands-on to deliver data platforms that are ready for analytics and AI, and you own them from first requirement to production. Every mission we embark on will be a collaboration with the customer, where we translate their ambitions into concrete deliverables.
- Design, build and maintain ETL pipelines and data models on Databricks, with Spark and Delta Lake
- Implement streaming and Change Data Capture with Lakeflow, including Declarative Pipelines
- Establish governance and access control in Unity Catalog
- Bring AI into the platform with Databricks Genie and Genie Spaces
- Translate customer questions into technical solutions, shape the solution design (data platform strategies and architectures) and implement it in Databricks
- Coach colleagues and client teams, and review their work
- You have coached colleagues before, and you enjoy it
- 4+ years of experience as a data engineer or in BI, of which 2+ years in the cloud, preferably Azure, with ETL jobs you designed, built and maintained yourself
- Strong data modelling and coding (mostly SQL, Python, PySpark) skills
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and the open-source technology underneath: Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, streaming and CDC
- You use AI hands-on in your own engineering work and are keen to do more with it
- Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Professional is a plus, or you are open to obtaining it
- A team player and problem solver who turns a customer question into a design, switches easily between projects and explains technical choices to any stakeholder
- Enthusiastic about being part of a growing team & industry
- You already reside in Belgium
- You are fluent in English, and either Dutch or FrenchAt element61, we hire for personality, drive, and a passion for learning, not just for what’s on your CV. You do not need to tick every bullet above: your ambition and motivation matter most to us, and we’ll support your growth.
- A market-leading compensation package, complemented by a wide range of extra-legal benefits and flexible options through our cafeteria plan and mobility budget
- Serious investment in your training and personal development, with knowledge sharing days where we learn and grow together
- Up-to-date technology: you always work on the latest releases, with access to a broad set of AI tools, from Claude to our own agentic engineering harness built around it, where our AI agent Ralph works alongside you as a colleague in every development
- Room for initiative: entrepreneurship is encouraged
- Plenty of team buildings and events together
