Fancy using your HGV experience somewhere a little different?
We’re looking for an experienced HGV Test Driver & Fitter to join our Test and Development team. You’ll get hands-on with both diesel and electric vehicles, helping our engineers test, develop and validate vehicles before they make it into production. It’s a varied role combining specialist driving with practical vehicle fitting, diagnostics and fault-finding, so you’ll see first-hand how your work contributes to the development of our vehicles.
What you’ll be doing
- Driving HGVs for development, validation and certification testing at proving grounds and on public roads.
- Carrying out vehicle safety checks and maintaining accurate test records.
- Testing prototype and pre-production vehicles and providing clear, objective feedback.
- Diagnosing faults and working alongside engineers to understand and resolve issues.
- Installing, modifying and maintaining mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components.
- Supporting vehicle instrumentation and test equipment setup.
- Working with engineers, technicians, suppliers and external test organisations.
- Supporting off-site testing and development activities when required.
What we’re looking for
You’ll bring a strong understanding of HGVs, alongside practical vehicle fitting experience. For this role, you’ll need:
- Relevant experience in HGV test driving.
- Practical vehicle fitting experience.
- A full UK HGV driving licence.
- A City & Guilds HGV Mechanical qualification, or equivalent.
- Experience working with high-voltage systems.
- Good knowledge of HGV mechanical systems including chassis, suspension, steering, braking and driveline components.
- Experience of vehicle diagnostics and fault-finding.
- An understanding of safe vehicle operation and proving ground testing.
- A collaborative approach and clear communication skills.
Experience with hydraulic systems, vehicle development and validation, instrumentation or external test organisations such as MIRA or UTAC would be useful, but isn't essential.
A role where you can make an impact
This is an opportunity to take your HGV experience beyond day-to-day driving or maintenance. You’ll work closely with our engineering teams, helping investigate issues, trial solutions and contribute to the development of both diesel and electric vehicles. The role also includes occasional overseas travel and working at supplier or customer sites when required.
If you enjoy getting hands-on with vehicles, solving technical problems and want to play a part in developing what comes next, we’d love to hear from you.
