Title of role: Senior Software Engineer I (Front-End)
Location: Dublin, Ireland; Hybrid (2 days in the office required)
Approved Salary Range: €70,000 - €100,000
About the Role:
Rue Gilt Groupe is looking for a Front-end Senior Software Engineer I to join our Merchandising Engineering team in Dublin, IRE. This is an international team, with members in the United States and Ireland. Merchandising Engineering owns the systems between buying and selling at Rue Gilt Groupe: product ingestion, catalog and attribution, selling hierarchy and boutique model, scheduled pricing and promotions, and the merchandising operations tooling built on top of all of it. The team is small and senior, primarily backend engineers, with this role as the dedicated front-end owner. We're currently replat forming our commerce stack, which means the team is defining new data models, new integrations, and new tooling rather than maintaining what exists.
We sit at the interface between our merchandising business and our commerce platform: getting bought products into the catalog, structuring how they're categorized and attributed, and building the tools our merchandisers use to plan, price, and launch boutiques every day. We're in the middle of a replat form. Our legacy ecommerce stack is being replaced with a modern SaaS commerce platform, and the internal merchandising tools that sit on top of it are being rebuilt and revamped. You'd be the front-end owner for that effort: setting the patterns, choosing the structure, and shipping the tools a team of merchandisers relies on every day.
We're also deliberate about how we build. The team uses Claude across the development lifecycle (code, review, documentation, triage) and we invest in making that leverage repeatable: shared skills, repo-level rules, and tooling that connects our AI workflows to the systems we use. There's no better time to be involved in the technical advancement of e-commerce at Rue Gilt Groupe. We utilize technology, merchandising, and marketing to strategically support our brand partners and inspire members daily. Our approach to retail brings excitement to online shopping and the best-in-class experience that today's customer demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own front-end architecture for the Merchandising Engineering team: establish patterns, project structure, component and state conventions, and testing standards for a new React and TypeScript codebase.
- Set the standard for AI-assisted front-end development on the team: author and maintain reusable Claude skills and repo rules for the new codebase, and define how we use agentic tooling in review, testing, and migration work.
- Port, expand, or rebuild our internal merchandising tooling (boutique building, scheduled pricing, catalog and taxonomy management) from a legacy Angular application onto a new commerce platform, retiring legacy pages as you go.
- Build data-dense internal UIs: large tables, multi-step workflows, and configuration tools where correctness and speed matter.
- Integrate front-end applications against platform APIs and event-driven backend services, working with backend engineers on contracts and data shape.
- Operate in an SDLC environment of fail-fast incremental delivery where innovation is a mainstay, and experimentation is encouraged.
- Collaborate directly with merchandisers, product management, and engineers across all of our technology teams to turn operational needs into shipped tooling.
- Lead by example: raise the front-end bar for a backend-leaning team through code review, pairing, and shared conventions.
About you
At Rue Gilt Groupe, diversity enriches our passion, collaboration, kindness and innovation. We're committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every Associate is empowered to learn, grow and bring their full self to work. Experience and Background Needed:
- Bachelor's Degree desired, but not required
- 5+ years of front-end engineering experience
- Deep experience with React and TypeScript; you've structured production applications from the ground up, not just contributed to them
- Fluency with AI coding assistants (Claude or similar) as a daily part of your workflow, and judgement about where they help and where they don't
- Experience building the scaffolding that makes AI tooling reliable for a team (prompt libraries, agent skills, repo conventions, MCP or similar integrations) is a strong plus
- Comfortable reading and working within Angular (our legacy tooling) and Vue (vendor-provided boilerplate); expertise not required
- Experience building internal, data-heavy applications for operational users (admin tools, back-office systems, workflow tools)
- Solid grasp of the Node.js ecosystem, build tooling, and CI/CD practices
- Experience consuming REST or GraphQL APIs; familiarity with event-driven or streaming backends (e.g. Kafka) is a plus
- Knowledge of design systems and component libraries
- Experience with a cloud computing platform (AWS preferred)
- Experience working in an Agile/Kanban development team
- A love of learning and teaching
- Fluency in English
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders while working in a collaborative team environment
