Engineering Lead, Mongoose

As an Engineering Lead in Tel Aviv, you will help establish and grow our engineering team in Israel. You will be one of Mongoose’s senior technical leaders, combining substantial hands-on engineering with technical direction, mentorship, and hiring. You will architect systems, write production code, and work directly with business leaders to turn ambiguous problems into software people use. We are flexible on level and title for the right person. What matters is your ability to combine strong engineering judgment with ownership, pace, and the ability to make the engineers around you better. What You’ll Do - Build the Tel Aviv engineering team. Help recruit, assess, onboard, and develop engineers, and shape the technical standards and working practices of a growing organization. - Stay hands-on. Architect systems, write production code, review critical implementations, and personally lead difficult technical work. - Understand the business problem. Work with operators and executives to diagnose workflows, identify valuable opportunities, and define what a successful solution needs to achieve. - Own delivery from discovery through production. Translate loosely defined needs into a technical approach, set priorities with business and product partners, prototype and validate solutions, and ship them into live environments. - Design complete systems. Lead architecture across applications, cloud infrastructure, data, APIs, and AI, balancing delivery speed with reliability, security, and maintainability. - Build for reuse. Develop APIs, agentic workflows, and AI-enabled systems, identifying patterns and components that can serve multiple Mongoose engagements. - Raise the engineering bar. Provide design and code reviews, architectural guidance, mentorship, and hands-on debugging support so the team makes better decisions and delivers stronger software. - Own production quality. Establish observability, investigate failures, address root causes, and improve the reliability and security of the systems the team ships. About You - You are an engineer who leads by building. You enjoy ship code using AI coding tools and harnesses, designing systems, and debugging difficult problems, and want hands-on engineering to remain a substantial part of your role. - You have demonstrated technical leadership as a Staff or Principal Engineer, Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, founder, or in a comparable role. Your impact matters more than your previous title. - You have shipped and operated production software, with the technical depth to make sound architecture decisions and resolve problems across applications, infrastructure, data, and integrations. - You have helped other engineers improve through mentorship, technical direction, and thoughtful code and design reviews. - You bring strong product judgment. You work directly with customers or operators, understand the underlying business need, and explain technical tradeoffs clearly to nontechnical partners. - You are comfortable with ambiguity. You can create structure, make decisions with incomplete information, and adapt as you learn, while remaining accountable for the result. Location This role is based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Mongoose is building a highly collaborative engineering team in Tel Aviv, and we expect this leader to work closely and in person with the local team while partnering extensively with colleagues and business leaders in the United States. Given our global footprint, some flexibility for collaboration across U.S. and Israeli working hours will occasionally be required.
