POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Field Deployment & Market Services is responsible for translating Volley’s signed contracts into successfully commissioned, high-performing automated parking facilities and then ensuring those facilities sustain industry-leading uptime over their operating life.
This role owns the full execution arc: GC and trade coordination, permitting and code compliance, integration with adjacent building systems (vertical reciprocating conveyors, BMS, EV charging), the establishment of a local service network in each market, and operational ownership of Volley’s Denver HQ lab where every deployment is rehearsed before it goes live. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable on a job site, in a pre-construction meeting with a union trade, in front of a building inspector, and on a service escalation call.
The role is based at Volley’s Denver HQ, but the right candidate must be willing and able to embed on-site for extended periods (weeks to months) in our active deployment markets New York City, Nashville, and Northern California — to personally stand up the company’s first wave of installations.
Key Responsibilities
Deployment Execution
• Lead Volley’s on-site deployment teams from groundbreaking through commissioning
across all active projects.
• Embed in market — NYC, Nashville, and Northern California — to personally lead the
company’s first deployments and translate field learnings into a repeatable execution
playbook.
• Serve as the primary technical and operational interface with general contractors, owner’s representatives, and AEC partners on each project.
• Manage construction interfaces with VRC and lift manufacturers (Otis, Autoquip, and
others), MEP trades, low-voltage contractors, and BMS integrators.
• Drive site-readiness inspections, FAT/SAT protocols, and turnover acceptance with
developer clients.
Denver HQ Lab & Pre-Deployment Validation
• Oversee Volley’s Denver HQ lab and showcase parking facility — the company’s primary environment for product validation, deployment rehearsal, technician training, and customer demonstrations.
• Partner directly with the CTO and Volley engineering team to simulate and rehearse first-
client deployments at the HQ facility before going live in market — surfacing integration
issues, refining install sequences, and validating commissioning protocols under controlled
conditions.
• Use insights from each lab simulation to harden the deployment playbook, technician
procedures, and quality standards applied across all market installations.
• Maintain the facility’s operational readiness as a working showcase for prospects,
investors, partners, and AHJ visitors.
Permitting, Code Compliance & Certifications
• Own the permitting workflow end-to-end — from pre-construction code analysis through final inspection and Certificate of Occupancy — across multiple AHJs.
• Maintain deep working knowledge of building, fire, life-safety, and accessibility codes (IBC, NFPA, ADA, local amendments) as they apply to automated parking and conveyor-based vehicle handling.
• Coordinate third-party inspections, equipment certifications (e.g., elevator/VRC certifications, UL listings), and commissioning sign-offs with local jurisdictions.
• Anticipate and resolve the code interpretation nuances that surface when a novel building system meets a traditional code framework — working directly with plan reviewers and inspectors when needed.
Construction Contracts & Commercial Terms
• Review and negotiate Volley’s scope within development agreements, GC contracts, and
subcontracts; partner with legal counsel on risk-shifting language, lien waivers, insurance,
and change orders.
• Translate Volley’s scope of work into clear bid packages, schedules, and subcontract
documents.
• Manage construction budgets, schedule risk, and change-order discipline across multiple
concurrent projects.
• Maintain fluency in CSI MasterFormat, AIA contract documents, GMP structures, RFIs,
submittals, and the full pre-construction-through-commissioning lifecycle.
Vendor, Trade & Union Coordination
• Build and lead Volley’s working relationships with third-party vendors, equipment OEMs,
and specialty subcontractors across every active market.
• Organize and coordinate effectively with union trades and signatory contractors in
jurisdictions where union labor is required (NYC, Bay Area), including navigating
jurisdictional disputes and trade-scope agreements.
• Establish clear performance expectations, quality standards, and communication
cadences with all field partners.
Market Service Network & SLA Performance
• Build and manage Volley’s network of in-market local service providers — including lift
OEMs, electrical and controls technicians, BMS integrators, and on-call response partners.
• Define, track, and report uptime, MTTR, and SLA performance across the deployed fleet;
own the operating dashboard shared with the executive team and customers.
• Develop preventive maintenance programs and spare-parts strategy in coordination with
engineering and supply chain.
• Stand up service operations in new geographies as Volley expands its market footprint.
Cross-Functional Leadership
• Partner with the CTO and engineering team on field issues, design feedback, and product
reliability improvements.
• Partner with the commercial team during pre-sale and pre-construction to validate site
feasibility and execution risk.
• Build the field operations playbook, training materials, and standards that allow Volley to
scale a repeatable deployment process.
Required Qualifications
• 10+ years in field deployment, construction operations, or implementation leadership for
property technology, building systems, or industrial hardware delivered into new
construction environments.
• Demonstrated expertise as a general contractor’s counterpart — fluent in the contractual, scheduling, and trade-coordination realities of ground-up commercial construction.
• Direct experience managing technology or hardware deployments inside ground-up
commercial development (multifamily, mixed-use, office, hospitality, or parking).
• Strong working knowledge of development and construction contract structures,
subcontract terminology, and risk allocation between owner, GC, sub, and equipment
vendor.
• Proven track record working with and organizing third-party vendors and union
contractors, including in major union markets such as NYC and the San Francisco Bay
Area.
• Deep familiarity with building, fire, life-safety, and accessibility codes; demonstrated ability
to lead permitting, inspection, and Certificate of Occupancy processes for complex or
novel building systems.
• Experience managing service and installation relationships with vertical transportation
OEMs (Otis, Schindler, KONE, ThyssenKrupp) or comparable building systems suppliers.
• Familiarity with BMS integration, low-voltage controls, and the coordination required
across MEP trades on a complex install.
• Track record of building and operating an SLA-driven service program with measurable
uptime and response-time outcomes across multiple sites.
• Based in (or willing to relocate to) Denver, with the ability and willingness to live on-site in active markets (NYC, Nashville, Northern California) for extended periods to stand up new deployments.
Preferred Qualifications
• Direct experience in the parking industry — operations, equipment, automated parking, or parking-adjacent property technology.
• Experience deploying robotics, AGVs, or automated material handling systems in
commercial buildings or industrial environments.
• Background with AEC firms, top-tier general contractors, or developer organizations on the project-execution side.
• Experience with EV charging infrastructure integration in parking environments.
• Hands-on engineering and technical installation background — personal experience
commissioning, troubleshooting, and bringing complex mechanical, electrical, or controls
systems online in the field.
• Engineering, construction management, or related technical degree; PMP, CCM, or LEED
credentials a plus.
What We Offer
• Base salary of $150,000–$200,000, commensurate with experience.
• Meaningful equity participation in a venture-backed Series A company.
• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits.
• A direct seat at the leadership table, reporting to the COO, in a fast-growing company defining a new property technology category.
• Denver, CO HQ with active deployments in the country’s most dynamic real estate markets.
Applicant must provide proof of his or her eligibility to work in the United States if selected for hire.
