ABOUT THIS ROLE
As an Industrial Engineering Co-op, you’ll work directly with our engineering, production, quality, and operations teams to help improve how work moves through our manufacturing environment. You’ll spend time on the shop floor, dig into real production data, identify opportunities for improvement, and help implement solutions that make our operations more efficient, scalable, and effective.
This is an opportunity to apply what you’re learning in the classroom to real-world advanced manufacturing challenges while gaining hands-on experience in process improvement, capacity planning, data analysis, and Lean manufacturing.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Improve manufacturing processes by evaluating workflows, production systems, and material flow to identify opportunities to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput.
- Get hands-on with operations by conducting time studies, cycle-time analyses, process observations, and workflow assessments directly on the manufacturing floor.
- Turn data into insights by collecting and analyzing manufacturing data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
- Support capacity planning for equipment, labor, manufacturing processes, and other operational resources as we continue to grow.
- Measure what matters by helping develop and monitor KPIs such as throughput, cycle time, utilization, downtime, work-in-process, and labor efficiency.
- Optimize the manufacturing environment by evaluating equipment, work-cell, and facility layouts to improve material flow, ergonomics, productivity, and use of space.
- Visualize and improve processes by creating process maps, value-stream maps, workflow diagrams, and current- and future-state models.
- Put Lean principles into practice through projects involving 5S, standard work, visual management, root cause analysis, and waste reduction.
- Help build scalable processes by developing and maintaining standard work, operating procedures, and manufacturing documentation.
- Use real manufacturing systems and data to support production analysis, scheduling, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate across the business with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and other teams.
- Own meaningful projects by developing recommendations, presenting findings, supporting implementation, and evaluating whether improvements delivered the intended results.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN
- Hands-on experience in an advanced manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to real production, engineering, quality, and operational challenges.
- Experience using manufacturing data to make decisions and drive improvements.
- Opportunities to work alongside experienced engineers and manufacturing professionals.
- Experience taking improvement ideas from analysis → recommendation → implementation → results.
- A better understanding of how industrial engineering helps a growing manufacturing organization scale.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Coursework in manufacturing systems, operations research, statistics, process improvement, engineering economics, manufacturing processes, materials, or engineering design is preferred.
- Previous internship, co-op, manufacturing, laboratory, or hands-on technical experience is a plus—but not required.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles through coursework, projects, or previous experience is beneficial.
WHO YOU ARE
- Enjoy digging into problems, analyzing data, and identifying patterns or opportunities for improvement.
- Are interested in manufacturing, operations, process improvement, and continuous improvement.
- Are comfortable working with numbers and can organize, analyze, and interpret data to support decisions.
- Pay attention to the details while still thinking about the bigger picture.
- Like being hands-on and are excited to spend time on the manufacturing floor learning directly from the people and processes doing the work.
- Communicate well, ask thoughtful questions, and enjoy collaborating with people across different teams and disciplines.
- Can take ownership of your work, manage multiple priorities, and make progress independently while still being a strong team player.
- Are comfortable using Microsoft Excel and interested in expanding your experience with tools such as data analytics, process mapping, CAD, ERP/MRP systems, or data visualization.
- Have exposure to—or an interest in learning—Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, value-stream mapping, and other continuous improvement approaches.
- Bring a learning mindset: you’re willing to ask questions, try new approaches, and respectfully challenge the way things have always been done.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This role involves regularly working at a computer as well as standing, walking, and moving throughout an active manufacturing facility.
- You may occasionally bend, reach, access manufacturing work areas, and lift or carry materials, equipment, or documentation weighing up to 25 pounds.
- You’ll work in proximity to active manufacturing operations and must follow all applicable safety requirements and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the manufacturing floor.
