InterSystems HealthShare is the premier health interoperability and innovation platform, providing unique solutions for today's widely distributed healthcare in which a single patient may connect to many providers at many locations using many different information systems. We combine and unify data from thousands of sources — electronic health records, social determinants, claims processors, public health, IoT devices, patient self-care and outcomes measures — onto a flexible and powerful data platform, and we deliver a wide variety of clinical and operational solutions to providers, public health systems, state and national health organizations, health information exchanges, and development partners in the US and internationally.
This role reports to the Manager, Portfolio Program and Operations Management, as part of a newly formed team responsible for cross-portfolio program management, operations, and consumability.
This function does not exist yet. There is no framework, no standard, and no established set of practices for consumability at HealthShare today. You will define all three, working directly with product managers across the portfolio, and then get that framework adopted into how the SDLC actually runs, rather than leaving it as a document nobody follows.
What You'll Own
- The consumability framework and strategy. Define what consumability means in practice at HealthShare, what consumability standards products should meet, and how progress against those standards is measured. This is the founding work of the function. You are building the standard, not applying an existing one.
- Integration into the SDLC. Take the framework out of a document and into practice: work with product managers and their teams to embed consumability standards into existing planning, design, and release processes via checkpoints and activities, rather than adding a separate parallel process.
- Content and format standards. Define consistent standards for customer-facing assets and content, including release notes, web and other documentation, upgrade and implementation guides. These need to be grounded in how customers actually use that content, not in how it has historically been produced.
- Direct engagement with customers, sellers, and implementers. Go directly to the people closest to the product, including our customers, sellers, and implementation teams, to understand where consumability is genuinely falling short: what's hard to find, hard to learn, hard to implement, hard to maintain, hard to upgrade. This is both primary research and leveraging existing cadence with these stakeholders.
- Gap identification and prioritization. Turn what you learn from customers, sellers, implementers, and product data into a prioritized view of where consumability investment matters most, and bring that prioritization to product managers and leadership as an input to roadmap decisions.
- Industry best practice. Track how other software and platform companies approach documentation, release communication, onboarding, and usability, to ensure alignment with user expectations and common standards.
- Define and maintain the metrics that tell us whether consumability is actually improving, and report on them regularly to product management and portfolio leadership.
What We're Looking For
- 5-8+ years in UX research, technical/content strategy, product operations, technical writing, or product management, with direct exposure to how customers implement and operate enterprise software.
- Healthcare IT and interoperability experience a plus.
- Comfort building something from nothing: defining a framework and a set of practices where none currently exist.
- Ability to influence decision makers without formal authority.
- Experience conducting primary research directly with customers, sales, or implementation/services teams, and turning qualitative input into prioritized, actionable recommendations.
- Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle well enough to identify realistic points to embed new practices without disrupting delivery.
- Familiarity with industry practices in documentation, release communication, and usability/consumability measurement, and the judgment to adapt rather than copy them.
- Experience defining and tracking metrics for a function or practice, including building the case for a metric before the data infrastructure to support it fully exists.
- Comfort learning new skills and products quickly.
