Civitech is a public benefit corporation dedicated to creating a fairer and more equitable democracy by building the tools and infrastructure needed to increase civic participation, empower Democratic candidates to win, and support the success of progressive causes. Since its founding in 2019, over 1400 partners—a range of nonprofit organizations, national political committees, and individual campaigns—have utilized Civitech’s tools to reach tens of millions of voters to help create a more equitable and progressive democracy.   RunningMate is Civitech's newest product, focused on transforming how progressive campaigns compete and win. The General Manager role leads RunningMate as its own business unit — owning revenue growth as the single top priority, with the budget, people, and decision rights to drive it. The GM's primary job is understanding the space's complex market structure and charting a course through it to drive business success and impactful growth. They'll spend much of their time as RunningMate's primary ambassador to the market, and their first deliverable is building RunningMate's 2027 strategy and plan. Civitech is a remote-first company hiring within our current footprint of  27 states (AL, AK, CA, CO, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, MA, MD, MN, NC, ND, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, SD, TN, TX, VA, WA, WI, WY);  Civitech does have an office in Austin, TX.   It is important that our team reflects the diversity of the organizations we seek to serve. We strongly encourage women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ people, and others otherwise underrepresented in the technology sector to apply.     What You Will Do:   Lead the RunningMate business unit, a cross-functional team of approximately 10 people spanning Product & Engineering, Marketing, and Client Success & Partnerships; set clear priorities, align the team around shared goals, and ensure work across functions supports the broader business strategy. Set the strategy for how RunningMate grows and wins in the market, including decisions around budget allocation, go-to-market investment, target customers and organizations, and where the team should focus its time and resources. Own RunningMate’s P&L and overall business performance, with accountability for revenue growth, investment decisions, and the financial health of the business unit. Align Product & Engineering, Marketing, and Client Success & Partnerships around a cohesive strategy, ensuring teams are working toward shared priorities rather than operating as separate functions. Shape and prioritize the RunningMate product roadmap in partnership with Product & Engineering, incorporating market needs, customer feedback, competitive dynamics, and growth opportunities to strengthen RunningMate’s position in the market. Serve as a primary ambassador for RunningMate within the political ecosystem, building and maintaining relationships with campaigns, state parties, C3/C4 organizations, partners, and other key stakeholders that can contribute to the business’s growth. Develop and drive RunningMate’s annual business strategy, beginning with the 2027 planning cycle, translating long-term goals into clear priorities, investments, targets, and measures of success for the team. About You:   6+ years of experience in progressive politics. Strong knowledge of the Democratic political and campaign ecosystem, including an understanding of campaigns, state parties, campaign committees, C3 and C4 organizations, and how these organizations approach budgeting, targeting, and purchasing decisions. Demonstrated experience owning and delivering against revenue goals, with accountability for the performance of a P&L, book of business, business unit, or revenue channel, ideally within a startup or growing organization. Experience building and scaling a product, business, or revenue stream in an entrepreneurial environment, including navigating ambiguity, limited resources, and evolving priorities to achieve meaningful growth. A track record of successfully scaling a business, product, or revenue stream from an early stage to $5M+ in annualized revenue. Strong relationship-building skills and experience developing trusted partnerships with campaigns, state parties, C3/C4 organizations, or other stakeholders within the political ecosystem. Experience selling to political organizations and understanding their needs, decision-making processes, and buying cycles.
