About the role

JavaScriptTypeScriptGitReactVueUI DesignFigma
Software Engineer We’re currently looking for a Software Engineer to join our partner company, Pixel Pioneers, an Australian boutique firm building innovative gaming and e-commerce products that shape the future of the industry. In this role, you will work closely with the Engineering Manager, translating product vision into clear strategy and guiding engineering and design teams through execution. The role focuses primarily on skill-based gaming and social gaming products. Please note: This position is with Pixel Pioneers, not directly with VGW, and requires office attendance 4 days a week in Perth (with Friday WFH flexibility). Key responsibilities will include: - Developing, optimising, and maintaining features across backend services and frontend frameworks using TypeScript and JavaScript with React or Vue. - Navigating, refactoring, and scaling large existing codebases and monorepos efficiently. - Leveraging AI coding tools and agentic workflows to accelerate development and focus on architectural problem-solving. - Translating Figma designs into performant UI, smooth interactions, and browser-based game experiences. - Engaging in daily Git workflows, constructive peer code reviews, and squad-based pair programming. What you will bring to the role: - 1–3 years of commercial experience demonstrating rapid learning, adaptability, and solid engineering fundamentals. - Practical experience using TypeScript or JavaScript in backend services, modern component frameworks, or both. - Daily hands-on experience with Git version control, pull requests, and peer code reviews inside established codebases. - Proven ability to work independently on individual tasks while collaborating effectively within small teams. - Comfort switching between tightly scoped legacy projects and fast-paced, AI-assisted workstreams. - Based in Perth and available to work in our office four days a week, with Friday work-from-home flexibility.
