Job Title: Locum Band 5/6 Speech and Language Therapist – Uxbridge, London Banding: Band 5/6 Location: Beaufort House, Uxbridge (base location, with work across different settings throughout the borough) Start Date: ASAP Salary: £20.00–£28.00 per hour Working Hours: Part-time or full-time Duration: 3 months Job Overview We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join a community-based children's service in Uxbridge. This is an exciting locum opportunity for a Band 5 or Band 6 therapist to support predominantly preschool children presenting with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). Based at Beaufort House, the successful candidate will work across a range of community settings, including Children's Centres and community clinics throughout the borough. You will play a key role in the early identification, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children with communication difficulties, helping to improve their developmental outcomes through early intervention and tailored therapy programmes. The role involves working closely with parents, carers, educational staff and other professionals to provide practical advice, training and support. You will also contribute to service development, quality governance and the ongoing delivery of high-quality care. Depending on experience, the successful candidate may also support and mentor less experienced therapists, assistants and volunteers. This opportunity is ideal for a proactive and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist who is passionate about early intervention, safeguarding children and supporting families to develop effective communication strategies. Key Responsibilities In this role, you will: - Provide assessment services for predominantly preschool children with speech, language and communication needs across Children's Centres and community clinics. - Assess, diagnose and deliver individualised therapy packages to support children's communication and language development. - Provide training and guidance to parents, carers and educational staff to support the implementation of therapy programmes. - Promote the early identification of speech, language and communication difficulties and support timely access to appropriate interventions. - Offer advice to parents and other professionals on early intervention and prevention strategies, using coaching, modelling and practical demonstrations. - Prioritise the safeguarding and welfare of vulnerable children at all times, following relevant policies and procedures. - Support the service in achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) and maintaining target activity levels. - Participate in quality governance activities, clinical audits and projects to support service improvement. - Contribute ideas and feedback regarding potential developments within the team and wider service. - Provide mentoring, buddying, support and shadowing opportunities to less experienced Speech and Language Therapists, assistants and volunteers, as requested by the team leader. Qualifications and Experience To be considered for this role, you should have: - A recognised degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy. - Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration. - Experience assessing and supporting children with speech, language and communication needs, ideally within preschool or community settings. - Knowledge of early intervention approaches and strategies to support children's communication and language development. - Experience developing and implementing individualised therapy programmes and advising parents, carers and educational staff. - An understanding of child safeguarding procedures and a commitment to protecting vulnerable children. - Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. - The ability to work independently across different community settings and manage a varied caseload effectively. - A proactive and collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working, service development and continuous professional development. - For Band 6 applicants, the ability to support and mentor less experienced colleagues, alongside relevant clinical experience.
