The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.
Under supervision, serves as a Senior Civil Engineer in the Field Operations Unit (FOU), Quality Assurance (QA) DOT Division of Bridges. This role involves overseeing all construction activities in the field, including the erection of structural steel and precast concrete units, pile driving, drilled shaft foundations, installation of reinforcing bars for concrete structures, and the placement of conventional and tremie concrete. Reviews project documentation, which includes design drawings, shop drawings, standard and special specifications, submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs) related to contractor operations, as well as procedures for concrete and asphalt placement. The candidate needs to has knowledge of the NYSDOT Bridge Manual, NYSDOT Standard Specifications, NYSDOT MURK requirements, NYSDOT Material Methods and Material Procedures, ACI codes, AASHTO requirements, and NYCDOT Specifications.
The selected candidate reviews and recommends approval of the contractor’s means and methods, including proposed machinery and equipment, to ensure high-quality final products. Actively participates in engineering meetings with designers, Construction Safety Specialists (CSS), REI Consultants, contractors, and city agencies. Evaluates the performance of the REI team, assesses the contractor’s workmanship, and ensures compliance of testing agencies with project requirements. Coordinates the work of other project engineers within FOU-QA as a team leader and provides assistance and guidance to REI staff. Performs other related duties as needed.

CIVIL ENGINEER - 20215
(1) Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; and
(2) A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
A masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required in “1" above.
Special Note:
In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
