Remote work is allowed. Flexibility to travel as required. Travel expectations vary by team and engagement. Colleagues are expected to travel when asked.
ROLE OVERVIEW
Engagement Managers are the day-to-day leaders of HealthScape’s payer transformation engagements. They combine healthcare payer expertise, structured problem solving, and disciplined project leadership to help clients navigate strategic and operational challenges. Engagement Managers direct analysis, translate findings into actionable recommendations, manage client relationships, and develop consulting teams across a variety of payer-focused engagements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead payer strategy and operations engagements from work planning through delivery, aligning objectives, hypotheses, milestones, and measurable client outcomes.
- Structure complex, ambiguous business problems; guide quantitative and qualitative analysis; challenge assumptions; and translate findings into practical recommendations.
- Advise clients on payer strategic priorities and operating challenges, including growth, market positioning, product and service strategy, administrative performance, medical cost management, and member and provider experience.
- Develop business cases, operating model recommendations, transformation roadmaps, governance structures, and implementation plans that account for organizational capabilities and execution constraints.
- Oversee development of compelling executive presentations and deliverables, ensuring analytical rigor, clear storylines, and actionable implications.
- Manage engagement scope, work plans, staffing, budgets, risks, dependencies, and quality while maintaining strong client service and delivery economics.
- Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders, facilitate working sessions, and drive alignment on decisions and next steps.
- Coordinate across business, operational, data, and technology stakeholders to ensure recommendations are feasible and support sustainable improvement.
- Coach and mentor consultants through feedback, delegation, and hands-on development; foster an inclusive, high-performing team environment.
- Support proposals, client development, thought leadership, knowledge sharing, and the evolution of HealthScape’s payer transformation offerings.
QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED SKILLS
- 6+ years of healthcare consulting experience; experience serving health plans or other payer organizations strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Understanding of health plan business models, payer economics, and strategic and operational challenges across the healthcare ecosystem.
- Demonstrated experience leading consulting workstreams or engagements, managing teams, and delivering high-quality client outcomes.
- Strong hypothesis-driven problem solving, financial and operational analysis, and ability to structure ambiguous questions.
- Experience developing strategic recommendations, business cases, operating model improvements, and actionable implementation roadmaps.
- Ability to build credibility with senior clients, facilitate discussions, and communicate clear, compelling executive-level insights.
- Strong project management skills, including scope, staffing, timelines, budget, risks, and stakeholder coordination.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; comfort using data, digital tools, and responsible AI to enhance consulting work.
- Commitment to colleague development, continuous learning, and improving healthcare; flexibility to travel as client needs require.
Salary range: $137,500-$180,000, plus may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications, practice area, and other business and organizational needs.
