About the role

Legal ResearchMachine Learning
Your Impact DISCO is building AI that litigators can rely on during live matters. That reliability comes down to the legal information underneath it — whether the case law, dockets, and source materials are complete, accurate, and current, and whether a lawyer can trust what the system tells them about the record. You will own that. As a lawyer technologist on our unified litigation platform product team, you will set DISCO’s legal data strategy and carry it through: what we cover, how we judge quality, and how we keep both improving as the product moves from pilot to general availability. You will work directly with litigators at design-partner firms, translate what you hear into product priorities, and partner with engineering and AI teams to build it. This role exists because the judgment it requires is legal judgment. Whether a cited case actually stands for the proposition. Whether a holding has been characterized correctly. Whether a source is authoritative for the question being asked. That comes from practice, which is why we are hiring a lawyer or product manager with deep legal experience rather than a generalist product manager. What You'll Do - Own DISCO’s legal data strategy. Define our approach to legal information coverage, quality, and reliability across DISCO’s AI-powered products, and carry it from definition through execution. - Turn litigation workflows into product priorities. Assess what practitioners actually need from source materials across key litigation workflows, and translate that into clear, actionable priorities the team can build against. - Partner across the company. Work with Engineering, AI, Design, and Commercial Strategy teams to design and ship initiatives that help practicing lawyers in meaningful ways. - Build processes that scale. Establish repeatable ways to evaluate, organize, and maintain legal information, and keep improving coverage, quality, and usability as we grow. - Decide with evidence. Bring data to prioritization calls, and find the operational improvements in how legal information gets managed. - Keep leadership close to the truth. Communicate progress, tradeoffs, risks, and dependencies clearly to senior stakeholders — including when the news is inconvenient. Who You Are - A former lawyer, legal professional, or product manager experienced with legal workflows. 5+ years of experience navigating complex U.S. legal or compliance matters. We strongly prefer a J.D. with 5+ years practicing U.S. law, ideally in complex commercial litigation. The role turns on judgment you can only build by doing the work or being close to the work. - Experienced across law and business. 10+ years across some combination of law, strategy, consulting, legal technology, product, or operations. - A proven operator. You have run complex, cross-functional initiatives from idea through execution, and you measure yourself on outcomes rather than activity. - Comfortable at both altitudes. You can hold a strategy conversation with executives, then work through the operational detail that makes the strategy real. - A clear communicator. You make yourself understood by legal, product, and technical audiences, and you adjust register without losing precision. - Sound in judgment. You are at ease in commercially and legally sensitive situations, and you know what discretion requires. - High ownership. You move quickly, you take the outcome personally, and ambiguity does not stall you. Even Better If You Have - Experience at product-focused, technology-driven companies. - Hands-on work with AI/ML-powered products, ideally in legal or another regulated, high-stakes domain. - Depth in legal data — legal research materials, docket filings, primary and secondary source materials, citation, or legal research systems. - An active U.S. bar license (preferred, not required). Core DISCO Product Competencies - Customer Focus & Insight: Deeply understand user needs and pain points through research to guide product decisions. - Strategic Clarity: Create and communicate clear direction aligned with business goals and measurable outcomes. - Delivery of Top Priorities: Drive high-quality and timely delivery of the most important new products and experiences. - Own the Outcome: Take full responsibility for achieving results and measurable impact from definition through iteration. Authorization to Work in the U.S.: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future. DISCO is not currently sponsoring visas, including, but not limited to, H-1B, TN, or EAD, and we are not accepting visa transfers. Perks of DISCO - Open, inclusive, and fun environment - Benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, as well as 401(k) - Competitive salary plus RSUs - Flexible PTO - Opportunity to be a part of a company that is revolutionizing the legal industry - Growth opportunities throughout the company About DISCO DISCO provides a cloud-native, artificial intelligence-powered legal solution that simplifies ediscovery, legal document review and case management for enterprises, law firms, legal services providers and governments. Our scalable, integrated solution enables legal departments to easily collect, process and review enterprise data that is relevant or potentially relevant to legal matters. At DISCO, we believe AI is a core enabler of how work gets done. All employees are expected to proactively adopt and responsibly use AI tools to drive efficiency, improve outcomes, and continuously evolve how they operate in their role.
