MEET BENEVITY
Benevity is the way the world does good, providing companies (and their employees) with technology to take social action on the issues they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We’re also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we’re as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!
High Level Role Overview
As a DevEX Senior Staff Developer at Benevity, you will lead Developer Experience and SDLC modernization across our technology organization. Sitting at the intersection of hands-on platform engineering, process evolution, and technical leadership, you will design the tooling and infrastructure that transforms AI-assisted development into a seamless, company-wide operating model. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will collaborate closely with Principal Architects, Staff Developers, Security, and product teams to remove friction, implement agentic automation, and build inclusive foundations that empower all of our teams to deliver high-quality software safely and sustainably.
What you’ll do:
- Lead DevX and SDLC technical direction across domains, enabling AI-DLC and agentic automation
- Design and scale agentic systems that accelerate the full software development lifecycle
- Make AI a natural extension of engineering practice while keeping human judgment and security in the loop
- Drive reusable and extendable architecture for developer platforms using public cloud infrastructure
- Work collaboratively with Principal Architects to guide our organizational DevX and AI-DLC strategy
- Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into highly adoptable platform solutions
- Solve cross-cutting challenges like dev environments, CI/CD supply chains, authentication, and quality gates
- Treat adoption as a primary outcome by diagnosing friction and influencing without authority
- Turn promising tools and shared components into widely used organizational standards
- Ensure DevSecOps practices and cloud-native security are built securely into the delivery stack
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation, enablement guides, and implementation processes
- Promote the adoption of industry-standard tools and shared platform capabilities across the organization
- Ideate and implement thoughtful proof of concepts for platform, agentic, and product advancement
- Provide supportive mentorship to senior developers through practical examples and constructive feedback
- Actively participate in architectural reviews to ensure inclusive design, quality, and consistency
What you’ll bring:
- Proven hands-on experience in Developer Experience (DevX), including building internal developer platforms (IDPs), golden-path templates, automated quality gates, and shared engineering component libraries
- 8+ years of scalable software development experience with software design accountability
- 2+ years in a technical leadership role driving org-wide platform capabilities or engineering productivity
- Expertise in scaling Developer Experience, SDLC tooling, or modern engineering productivity systems
- Hands-on background with AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, and LLM tooling
- Deep commitment to secure, ethical delivery practices and fostering an inclusive engineering culture
- Strong grasp of core cloud infrastructure and how to scale technical solutions across multiple teams
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose team friction, influence workflows, and thoughtfully drive tool adoption
- Solid understanding of API-first design, loosely coupled systems, and modern software architecture
- Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code, DevSecOps practices, and modern CI/CD pipelines
- Experience coding in Python and/or Java along with familiar frameworks like FastAPI or Spring Boot
- Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure on AWS or GCP, with Azure experience as a great bonus
- Excellent communication skills to align product, architecture, security, and engineering teams
- Comfort navigating ambiguous problems with a strong bias toward shipping measurable, user-friendly improvements
- Background integrating engineering systems like Jira, CI, and observability into cohesive workflows
