The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) seeks to eliminate racial and other inequities in premature mortality. With an unwavering grounding in history and structural analysis, CHECW works to increase visibility of the harm perpetuated by centuries of racist, socially unjust policy while pushing towards redress for the most impacted NYC communities. CHECW addresses inequity across community and healthcare systems in partnership with community, faith-based, and health care organizations. CHECW's work focuses on social determinants of health, including environmental and commercial determinants, and addresses both upstream and downstream factors to improve health and well-being of New Yorkers. CHECW is comprised of the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health, Bureau of Queens Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention, the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems and the Bureau of Finance, Administration and Services. The division's Deputy Commissioner also serves as the Agency's Chief Equity Officer and oversees Race to Justice, the Agency's internal reform effort to help our staff learn what they can do to better address racial health gaps and improve health outcomes for all New Yorkers. The Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) launched in 2021 to facilitate collaboration and coordination among healthcare delivery partners and the Health Department around a shared vision for improving health in New York City. The CMO Office mission is to develop and implement anti-racist policies and programs in three key areas: Provider Communications and Engagement; Cross-Agency Clinical Coordination and Management; and Workforce Sustainability.
Reporting into the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, the Provider Engagement Manager will support the office's mission to bridge public health and healthcare in New York City by: 1) Aligning and strengthening the agency's healthcare provider engagement and communication strategies and mechanisms, and to ensure healthcare provider information is developed disseminated centering evidence based science, health equity, and social justice; and by 2) Designing, developing and piloting innovative initiatives through collaborations with multidisciplinary healthcare partners, regular convening of stakeholders, and application of health equity frameworks.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Lead development and implementation of strategies for leveraging a comprehensive Provider Data Warehouse to contain master record of NYC healthcare providers based on merging data from multiple agency sources/databases in order to better engage and communicate with providers. Health care providers are critical to supporting COVID-19 vaccinations, myth busting, prevention, and treatment.
- Research, develop, implement, and strategized for enhanced engagement with diverse health care providers across New York City, including primary care clinicians, specialty care clinicians, and healers (acupuncture, naturopathy, etc.).
- Research and define success criteria and key performance indicators (KPIs; e.g., open rates, click-through rates) for ad-hoc communications and planned campaigns.
- Recommend and test communication strategies to increase provider engagement.
- Supervise staff members (Provider Engagement and ICS Coordinator, Product Health Systems Manager).
- Research and develop a thorough understanding of the provider population, across various strata including provider specialties and populations served.
- Evaluate various data sources, including community and partner surveys, landscape assessments, and local and national data to assess emerging needs and priorities.
- Use evaluation findings to inform program development and recommendations, collaborating with cross-agency leadership.
- Review literature to assess for innovative and effective provider and community engagement strategies.
- Work with CMO Office in the researching and writing to publish papers pertaining to the office’s scopes of work and expertise.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience with stakeholder engagement and project management.
- Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of communication theory and equity frameworks preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to manage and report complex information.
- Experience working with clinical or health care stakeholders.
- Experience with communications and external affairs.
- Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities, along with a demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.)
- Clinical background a plus but not required.

- Desire to grow professionally, develop new skills and willingness to work outside of comfort zone.
- Experience working with the public health sector and coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders.

- Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Salesforce platforms may be preferred

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.
